@Cocoloco how does the Corvette build quality compare and hold up compared to Ferrari? The ZR1 looks like an amazing value at over 1000 non hybrid hp.

 

Ferrari interior leather etc is far better. Splitting hairs, but the alcantra in the Ferrari does feel nicer vs GMs home grown version.
That said, overall fit and finish is very similar...panel gaps, paint, trim, CF etc quality are too close for comfort for the Ferrari owner to admit (thats me). I looked in the door jambs, under the car, behind interior panels....I found nothing in the c8 that was crappy. Remember, the CF wheels on the Zr1 are made by the same company that makes them for Chevy! You won't believe this...but CORVETTE uses the same paint as Ferrari. PPG. and the same process.

 

PS 30 years ago I had a car detailing business. One of the cars we prepared won its class at Pebble. I know finishes, paint, paint prep. when I see crappy work on a new car (Ferrari!) it drives me nuts.

 

I had 2...2!!...brand new TM cars, insane $ in options and paint alone. Both with some nasty blemishes. It was expertly fixed, but paint overspray, paint missing. Surprising to say the least.

 

Plastics are lighter. You cannot compare sports cars to luxury sedans. Weight matters. These compromises must be made if you want a better driving experience.

 

Does the gloss finish chip more than the matte plastic at the bottom of the car? Maybe a reason? On the other hand- how do both compare to CF?

Better than having to spend over $10k fixing the sticky bits that melt 5 years after the car is owned.

 

But these new Ferraris are still very heavy, SF90 is close to 4k lbs which is absurd.

 

On our scuderia and our pista I could easily see sanding (DA sander) marks UNDER the paint on the top surfaces of the car....on the Pista the marks were under the painted stripe. What a joke.

 

Same on my Pista, especially where the hood dipped. They didn't take much time to finish the paint properly. Still love the car and wouldn't mind another one.

 

Mclaren has the gloss black options (black out pack). I'm sure Ferrari could do the same. The design would be near flawless (to me) with glass black plastic in the referenced areas.

 

good point. However, next time you see a 296 with plastic sills...press your finger against the sill. its super thin, cheap material. I assure you that they could have used a better quality material and not added weight. Open the engine cover or trunk..if you don't have the CF parts that replace the course surfaced plastic parts...you will realize the quality of those parts are sketch as well. On the 'trunk' lid of our GTS...leading edge...the paint is peeling. Flaking actually. Rosso Imola. I won't ask Ferrari to fix it because I know what they will do....paint the hood. There would be zero chance of a paint match and a lovely history blemish on the records that I would have to explain if I were to sell the car.

 

Not as absurd as the Revuelto's 4300 pounds curb weight. Crazy to me how much those weigh.

 

I know, it's also a pig.

 

Do you think that some of this is due to Ferrari now being a publicly listed company? The frequency of new model introductions has increased. Both hard top and open top version of cars now being launched simultaneously. Seems like things have changed.

 

Lexus and Audi showed us that any vehicle over even $75,000 can have thick, flawless paint on delivery. For 5 to 10 times that price, there is zero excuse.

 

I asked the same thing for my GTS, the only way they will do it is to spec carbon and then they will do it in gloss black

 

Seems to be an Italian thing. I do pre-delivery inspections and detailing for a living. Lamborghini tries to fix their blemishes and imperfections, but ends up doing more damage than good, shipping the car off with swirl marks and polishing compound left in corners and crevices.

On the other end of the spectrum, I can't recall such major issues with any Porsches I've had in other than the first gen Taycans. "Made in Italy" sadly isn't much of a quality stamp - "Let the dealership take care of this, next car on the assembly line, please"

 

Guys, everything you write about quality issues, if you send the emails directly to the factory in bulk, believe me, they will eventually look into it.
From the moment you pay and continue to buy, for them everything is fine.

 

I think my 296 is higher quality inside and out vs my C8 Z06. GM is making a concerted effort for 2026 to turn the quality up. Should even the playing field.

one thing you get on the Chevy is A LOT of carbon that’s very high quality for cheap. We’re talking $30k worth in a Ferrari for $5k. Puts things in perspective bc chevy isn’t losing money on it.

 

I have a American muscle car besides my Ferrari. I bought a full carbon fiber hood, two-sided and hand made in California. Beautiful gloss finish. Cost was $2k. I love carbon fiber on cars, and have plenty on my Ferrari, but it's a complete rip off and huge gross profit for the Company.
