Quick question. In the UK how is the taxes on a new car handled? What is the VAT for a car ?
When selling a used car, is there a VAT and is it the same percentage as when buying a new car?

VAT on new cars is 20% ... It's only paid once. That means usually no VAT on used cars.
I say usually because in some cases there are used cars that are "VAT Qualifying" which is a special category for when a car has been purchased solely for commercial use by a VAT-registered individual or company.
Following the car's purchase, the individual or company will have claimed the 20% VAT back so when the car is sold on (as used) the VAT becomes the responsibility of the second owner, and therefore has to pay VAT on a used car.
