I have owned several Italian bike (right now I have a 998 and 2 Aprilia RS250 race bikes) I had the pleasure of doing a longweekend ride on a friend's MV. Great bike, I didnt have any problem with the gear box, maybe because I was use to other italian bikes. great all around bike, cornered well, brakes were great, and faster then I antisipated. the front of the bike did not feel "light" like other I4 sport bikes, and thats one thing I hate about most jap bikes. the only thing I did not like about the bike, the bike seems to be built for someone about 5'10, I'm 6ft and the bike felt just a tad bit small when trying to tuck, but that could just be me.

we'll see how Chuck Sorensen does on his this year in AFM. He came out 5th overall in Formula Pacific last year. Not bad. The MV is a good bike, no question. If you are serious about racing its up there, but still, yer on yer own as far as parts, tuning and set up goes.

if its sex and curb apeal, no questions, get the MV.

the new Duck 1098? kinda underwhelmed. Its just as good as the 999, but not as sexy (I'm one of the whackos that like the style of the 999, the 1098 is better looking in person, but lacks as much style, good or bad, as the 999).

I'm still a sucker for the Aprilia Mille. Being 6'7" is just fits me better than any of the other italian superbikes. Stable as 10 fookers and can still haul the mail. Not as fast as a new GSXR or R1, but loads sexier.

Had one of them in the 70s. Piece of junk. The new ones are over priced, essentially copies of the Japanese bikes. I've got a 996, that I'll match against any MV. Of course, I've fiddled with it a litte: Ohlns kit in the forks, Penske rear shock, FactoryPro did the engine, and it was dissassembled and put back together very, very carefully.

4 cylinder bikes don't have the traction coming off the corners that a twin does. Because the power strokes are more frequent, they don't grip quite as well as a twin. If you'd like to see that in action, watch a world superbike reace, the 4s generally accelerate better, but lose a little off of each corner, due to the better traction from a twin.

I have some history that enables me to comment: former national number in the AMA, two times Twins Champion in the 80s, so I think that I know a little about this subject.

They're OK, good performance and fairly reliable...

Save your time and money and get a Ducati 1098 GPR or Tricolore if you want to stand out.

Who knows if MV will be around in the future, both Aprilia and MV look shaky these days.

Check my Profile, I believe I can help you with any questions about any bikes....:)

Very cool to see a MotoGP replica. The GP6 especially was a fine bike and this a fitting tribute to Ducati's 990cc MGP success.

About the biggest difference aesthetically is the RR's exhausts exit out the top of the tail, the GP6 underneath (which would be obscured by the number plate on a road bike). The GP6 also has pipes exiting under the rider's right foot.

I know someone who owns a 750 Senna. He thinks he fried the ECU somehow (knowing this person, that is entirely reasonable), so the bike has been on static display for many years. He has offered it to a friend of mine, but it's not clear how to get it functional again.
