Hi 599 owners, My rear suspensions are leaking and resulting a pretty pretty bumpy ride at the rear end. I'm looking into what options do I have to make it a better handling car. I believe the dialed in suspension will make 599 a much more enjoyable car. Shockingly there's no off the shelve aftermarket options from any reputable brands: Ohlins, Bilstein, Nitron etc. The feedback I got from the novitec/KW one was not good. I didn't like the KW I had on other cars so that's off the list. I can stay OEM, probably buy the Nagengast, or buy custom Ohlins DFV by Madeno, but not sure if i'm ready to invest 10k on suspensions. What other options should I be aware of?
KW is the only system that comes to mind. Depending on where you are located, Nitron might be able to make you a set.
There are plenty of coil-overs for the car. Also you can send them to Europe for a remake, I don't advise doing this. I went with OEM replacement. My first set went almost 50K miles so I think I'm now done with this. I expect them to hold for another 40 or 50K.
Be careful on the fact your 599 has magneride system. If you put non-magneride system, you have to manage the errors the Control units are going to send you. In Europe, Nagengast, in Poland, has a good reputation for rebuilding magneride systems. https://nagengast.pl/en/kategoria-produktu/ferrari-en/
You can also put a black tape on the dashboard. It’s easier. More seriously, it depends on whether you think the magneride system is part of the car and should continue to be used or not.
Rebuild Masters here in the US has done at Least a dozen sets of Magnaride shocks for the 458, 599 and California and all have been great, and cost was about $800 per shock.
Thanks for for the info. Yes I'm aware of the trade off on the Magneride and Manettino. Have to say the gen 1 Magneride on the 599 is is outdated as a suspension technology so I don't have any problem opting out for them if a high quality modern aftermarket options is available. Sadly it doesn't look like any companies do in house design/test for 599 suspension, unless I spend $$$$ on the Madeno Ohlins set. I know Nagengast is a great option for rebuild. Has anyone here actually got theirs rebuilt by Rebuild Masters? I've never heard of them and I don't see 599 as a option on their website.
I have had some fluid leak out of two of my shocks but cannot detect any change in ride quality or suspension behavior and have been surprised about that. I am also wondering just how much fluid is in these reservoirs, say a cup or pint? Regards, mine is a 2010 599 GTB.
The volume doesn't matter, once the seal is blown, the pressure won't be stable under different temperatures. You'll gradually feel the lose of the dampening force.
I am in very early stages of getting a custom coilover setup done for my 612 (OTO with HGT2 package). I have selected MCS as I have them on my track car and they are amazing, I think I will go with the 1way adjustables, I have 2 way remotes in my track car - that is very likely overkill for the 612. I have no idea how different the 612 suspension is vs the 599. But if there is interest, I can keep everyone updated as we make progress.
