Hey all, in another of one of my newbie ownership posts, I wanted to ask about keeping your F8 on the battery maintainer. FYI, I have read through some of the other threads on this topic, and I have to admit that some of the stories of the battery dying so easily gets me a bit concerned.

The dealer told me that if I'm not going to drive the car for more than 72 hours, then to keep it on the charger. I have the Ferrari charger that has only one light, and I have been following that protocol.

So on the weekend if I'm driving it daily or multiple times per day, I don't keep it plugged in. Once the weekend is over, it goes right back on the charger and stays that way. I've only gone through one week using this system.

Does this sound like the way to go? It seems that some people say that you should keep the car plugged in AT ALL TIMES when not driving it.

So if I take my car for a drive, come home, and decide to take a 3 hour break before driving again, I'm supposed to keep it plugged in just for that short period? That seems excessive, no?

Is the advice the dealer gave me (72 hours) the best way to go?

I put mine on after every drive when parked in the garage. With the magnetic clip, it takes seconds.

You are thinking correctly. If I drive the car in the morning but know I will drive it later I do not put it on the charger. If I will drive the next day I might put it on the charger may be not. I also put a Interstate battery in it and those are much much better than the oem battery.

What's the issue of just plugging it in all the time when parked ?

Its easy , and I don't believe hard. Its not a 458, the plug is on the bumper outside.

A better question would be what am I going to do when I try to start the car and it wont start.

Do you have a plan ? That will happen guaranteed 100% Didnt your dealer tell you that ?

Your dealer’s advice (plugging in after 72 hours) is reasonable for regular use. The F8’s battery drains faster than average, but you don’t need to plug it in for short breaks between drives just for longer inactivity (3+ days). If you’re driving it weekly, your current routine is fine. For extended storage, keeping it on the maintainer full-time is best, but daily plugging/unplugging isn’t necessary. Just avoid letting it sit dead for long.

Question, Can the OE battery be swapped to something else (ie..interstate) without causing dash lights or other issues?

Mine is a 2021. It still has the original factory Ferrari battery. It's full strength still. Car has 8700 miles. I snap the charger on every time I park it in garage and it stays on til next drive. Do I need to do that? Who knows but it's certainly not hurting it and as said above, it literally takes two seconds. I leave the charger plugged in and the cord sitting on a table next to the door that goes into my kitchen. When I back it into garage, walk towards the door to go inside the house and grab the cord and stick it in there in one motion as I open the kitchen door. It literally takes no more time than walking into the house without doing that.

A battery is a battery - so replacing it should not cause any issue (as long as it has the requested voltage / power). The Lithium battery like in the Pista is a particular case because it has another connector in addition to the plus and minus ones, so there is another tricky monitoring of the battery that would not work with a standard Lithium battery, as far as I understand.

Ok, only reason I ask is if a Ferrari will freak out and need a dealer if the battery is disconnected and replaced.
