1956 side view mirrors for 250 GT

    Now that my matching #s Boano is super road worthy, I would be much more comfortable with at least a drivers' side mirror. I realize that these mirrors were an add-on, or accessory at this time; not necessarily a factory item.
    Therefore I am in search of a correct era side view mirror for this car. I like the look of the green dot Talbot mirrors, but I believe that they are too modern for my cars' era. Any suggestions?

    Why not use the ones that racers at Goodwood have in their cars, when not wishing to drill the bodywork?
    I have bee trying to find a source, alas, no luck :)

    I'm not sure of the one's you mean. The wing windows do not lend themselves to the clamp on type. I have no problem drilling the door for the correct mirror though.

    PS. Does E.S. stand for El Salvador? I was there in 1977 as a 16yr old kid. Had nothing but fun! I was the only juedo I ever saw there!

    The original Talbot 300 Berlin teardrop mirror was introduced around 1956 I read. The original Talbots were not "green dot" - that version is a much later production, perhaps 1980s - a guess. The original Talbot mirrors did not have the garish plastic green emblem; they had a small circular stamping integral to top of the bullet spinning, chrome. There were several styles of base; one a streamlined post, the other a longer base. The Talbot Junior was a slightly smaller, modest size. An enterprise called Aardvark International in California reproduced the original Talbot mirrors, perfect reproductions, very nice. They also offered parts for restoration, the new exact replacements for the old. I think the company still exists. An alternative to consider is the typical Italian mirror found for example on Alfa Romeos - streamlined base, a slender dowel post to the circular mirror with very shallow bullet form for the housing. Easy to find. Simple, but graceful mirror, though I do not know the period date of origin.

    The mirrors are clamp ons, all e-types have them. You want to talk about your times there?

    originally ferraris used 3-3.5” mirrors.
    i had an orig NOS from 1966 circa. 4”
    it had a raised portion that said Talbot. most importantly it said “W. Berlin” because there was something called the “Iron Curtain”. new repops only say Berlin.

    The emblem of the first generation of Talbot mirrors read "Talbot & Co - Berlin" (no "W").
    At some time after the Berlin Wall, the logo text changed to Talbot + Co - W Berlin.
    The first "green dot" logo version appeared in the early 1970s.

    Berlin wall went up in 1945 circa.
    so for a 50/60’s Ferrari, W. Berlin would be correct.

    Ah, get out your history book please. Berlin in 1945 was rubble. The physical barrier of the Berlin Wall was erected in 1961. The Berlin Airlift was 1948 after Soviets blockaded roads and water access to West Berlin, but there was no wall. The Talbot with the 'W Berlin' emblem is not purely correct for 1950s or 1960.

    for all practical purposes the “wall” was created approx 1948 per history books. a 60’s ferrari is what is being discussed here and most correctly would wear a
    W. Berlin mirror.

    The Talbot emblem added the 'W" after the PHYSICAL wall was built in 1961, not 1948. The car in question from the original post is a Boano, which is 1950s, production, NOT 1960s. I am not going to waste any more response to nonsense twisting of this.

    Besides you being most correct, Italian Law, stipulated that, all that was required on car, was a rearview mirror. (interior)

    No outside mirrors required, much less if made by Ze Germans :rolleyes:, that were quite fwd on istalling door mirrors, as soon as they realized their practicality.
    That is where Vitaloni became a monster mirror manufacturer in Italy. Even on AR, door mirrors were optionals, and no holes were pre-drilled from the factory.

    That, would cost an extra 'cento lire'. :eek:
