Norris is so so happy and excited he won... because of a questionable penalty. This is not normal.
Piastri went from 218kph down to 52kph and applied 60psi of brake pressure: 1) When the safety car was coming into the pits. 2) Under adverse or inclement conditions. The penalty was well applied by the stewards towards Piastri.
No worries, I’m ecstatic! All I wanted is for Lewis not to podium and for his streak to fall The fact that it was Hulk who denied him only made it sweeter! Today’s a great day and I couldn’t be happier!!!
The difference is, its raining heavily. Was it intentional brake checking on Max? I don't buy it. Mainly because there was no reason to. He pretty much dominated Max at the time. 10 seconds is just saying: "Ok, we've decided you're not going to win this race".
It was raining and the overspray from lead car. 60psi of brake pressure? Of course it was intentional.
Or maybe just not trying to overtake the safety car on a slick track. He pretty much had control over Max. Watching Norris gloat over the penalty makes me ill. No sportsmanship.
I wait for Piastri's explanation for what happened there. I would have prefered him to win, to be honest, but he messed up today when he had a win in the bag, and paid for it. But he is still young and will have a brilliant career, I hope. Today he learned a lesson, IMO.
Ferrari made a bunch of mistakes as a team. Good day for rally racing by Leclerc on a number of times.
Piastri played Max's game. We see how Max tries to bully at the restart. By blocking lead car from warming tires driving beside it. Piastri played with Max's head with that brake check. Max screwed up on very next turn with spin and both Maclarens walked home with easy one /two. Also buried Max deeper down in the points. Good day for the team. Norris gets a gift of a win, but that's life.
A perfect example of rain destroying what would have been an exciting race, and turning it into a pitwall lottery. A nice surprize for Nico, bad luck for Oscar, a tainted victory for Lando, and Ferrari at this point in the season couldn't win a coin toss.
You’ve perfectly summed up this race with a very efficient use of wording. Anyone who has t seen the race and doesn’t care about spoilers….see John’s post for the best race recap I’ve read. lol
Norris has suffered a facial injury (don't know how serious it is) after the race when a fan fell on top of him from the fence line while Norris was waving to the fans. I saw it on Ted's Notebook after the race.
What an amazing race that was. Hamilton was one point looking great to get past Hulkenberg but P4 is still a decent result for him. The floor upgrade has certainly made a difference and we are surely going to see him on the podium soon.
My opinion, Oscar is a better driver than Noris. Neutral on the penalty. Many years ago, the race wasn't slowed or stopped because of heavy rain. I know safety is important, do they throw more rooster tails than the past?
I think tire technology, well according to Pirelli, has come a long way with respect to siping water away. Intermediates sipe 25 gallons of water per second....and that's just 1 tire. Multiply that by 4. Thats alot of water being picked up and thrown behind the car so the overspray is quite the rooster tail as these cars are longer and wider.
They were saying during qualifying that they thought Ferrari had increased downforce for a wet race. If that was the case, pitting Charles for slicks before lap 1 made no sense. Ferrari has made so many bad decisions they keep second guessing themselves. Maybe the stewards thought Oscar was young enough that he needed a big spanking to learn.
What was amazing? And if the Ferrari floor upgrade was worth anything, then why didn't it help Leclerc as well? McLaren had the advantage of starting at the front so that it had no spray to hamper it. All the rain did was lead to panic in the pits, cause some spins that otherwise would never have happened, scramble the mid-field, and cause Ferrari to never be able to show what their potential. It was mud wrestling with wheels. The current generation of cars don't seem to run as well in the wet as compared to the past cars. If F1 continues like this, I might start wondering if they are owned by Stellantis.
