Seriously, Vern Shuppan not good enough for you?

Any hoo - someone bought it fairly promptly so the price was OK.

Yeah, big deal. Anyway, Vern didn't do much. Here's a pic of the side of his 956 when he won LeMans in 1983. The other names are nobodies as well.

    Pretty frightening lap of Mosport:

Won the 1976 Rothmans series here and some Japanese championship I can't recall. Indycar rookie of the year as well. Amongst a host of other stuff. Could walk down the street, like Tim Schenken, and no one would recognise them.

That GT/E #3479 was delivered new to the Swiss dealer Keller, in RHD, with metric instruments. John Rosa is still around, you can ask him the rest.

If you're after a car like that, the problem is you don't have a large gene pool to chose and no used car car of that age will fill all your requirements.

Again,so what,it doesn't have any beariing on the subject matter..
He didn't race the the 250,that would have helped the provenance.
I don't get the gooeyeyed sentiment you and Ian have.

Does provenance mean anything apart from wank value? Buy on current condition alone, provenance won’t pay the repair bills

I responded to "big deal, one name wonder"

His association with the 250 GT/E is irrelevant.

It depends how you define it. If it's celebrity ownership, then that almost provides no value, unless your name was Steve McQueen.

If provenance refers to an extensive folder of documents pertaining to the vehicle showing service, parts, sales invoices, period images etc. Then absolutely it matters.

Of course not. Except to some beard-scratchers.

It’s a lot like “Aussie delivered”.

    Idiotic. Pointless. Meaningless.

I’d wager at least as many people have been burnt by the “Aussie delivered” bollocks as have been burnt by buying rubbish overseas cars.
    Probably more, actually.

“Buy on current condition and history” as you say.

    Everything else is wank value.

…Until you go to look at buying a car that is imported and realise most people are importing to save a buck and importing rubbish. :D

The “imports are rubbish” Is a blanket statement but it’s not without some truth. Agreed, buy on condition or better still buy on condition, buy a local model and just avoid this whole situation if you need to sell later.
