Windscreen wipers partially working - question

    The wipers on my 1989 412 only work on slow speed continuous. The middle intermittent position does nothing at all, and the speed control (twist) seems to do nothing either. In addition, the wipers do not park themselves - they just stop instantly if you move the lever back to the OFF position.

    Does this behaviour point to any known component issue?

    The timer gets its ground from the windscreen motor itself (actually from one of the internal switching mechanism of the motor, which is where the problem. This can be troublesome as there is a coil that has to be charged in order to properly time the operation.

    A so-so ground plays havoc with the relay timer.

    If the timer is shot, a Lada timer can do the trick.
