Utterly useless, and quite vulgar. I feel no need to advertise to my passenger how fast we are going or whatever.

You don’t find it distracting to have a lit screen to the far right of your peripheral?

Considering those western cars are quickly losing ground in said market, best case is they’ll return to making cars for the rest of us, while the Chinese make everything for themselves.

I think the solution is to uncheck the box.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like you can do that with Amalfi. There may be a way through bespoke, but likely a very expensive way.

Ferrari is the one company that will do practically anything as you said in a bespoke way, even if it means 'unplugging' a screen. (Will of course charge you thousands for 5 seconds of work) - that said, folks can easily do it themselves for $12 with black film. Now for the aesthetics of having a 'blank' area where a screen should be, that would again, be more thousands of dollars - to make it flush.

Distracting? How? as you said it's to the far right (left in my case UK) Why would i even be looking over there to start, it's tiny so i can't read anything on it at all, I am usually looking straight ahead with regular quick glances in the rear view mirror. Even if it was larger I would not find it distracting. There is nothing on it I cannot see or find on the screens in front of me.

Particularly at night; having an additional light in your peripheral. Maybe that’s just me.

I'd be surprised that it was specifically made for the Chinese market, Not US or Europe. This makes no sense at all.
In reality it is more likely the US market primarily and also the EU. I agree it's a generational thing and the younger generation love LCD screens, I admit I do too, but I like to stay with the times and not get left behind. We had single screen gaming set ups which then increased to 3 screens for racing cockpits and increasing rapidly, this starts in the US. Same as traders and other industries using multiple screens at work.

It's a shame to blame another market when the US market dictates so much which I don't have a problem with, as someone else mentioned simply don't 'tick the box' or purchase used if it has the display, mine has an 'off' button. 100% would not buy the car without it. If you don't want the passenger to see the speed tell them to change the display to something else or turn it off. If they don't listen stop and they can get out. I don't see how the passenger seeing the speed in a Ferrari really matters, isn't that the point of being in a Ferrari? It's not like they can't see through the transparent thing in front of them as you whizz past everyone! If you are in my Ferrari you are doing as you are told simple. It's not a big ask, not like i'm asking them to cross their legs above their head and pray to my prancing horse god of wishful thinking. There are so many younger people in the US able to afford such vehicles as opposed to China which pay so much more in taxes for the vehicle it's quite unobtainable for most especially younger people there.

Don't buy it as an option new, don't buy a used car with it, turn it off or pay someone to cover it, it wouldn't cost much to have a (removable) cover made (if it's that much of an issue) or ignore it. It wont even void your warranty. Another 1st world problem that does not exist. One of many I found while reading info here prior to buying my F8 it has now become a list. It became like the media, false fearmongering. Like not test driving prior to purchase or me wanting cruise control then the lexan screen... The centre screen in the huracan is ugly and wont age well but even the Roma centre screen is designed well just large and too many pages for individual functions instead of a few detailed pages.

I wouldn’t expect a company as eccentric as Ferrari to pander to any market, actually. Question, after you turn the display off, does it go completely black? And how do you turn it back on? Do you just tap it and it’s on, or is the power button always there to turn back on?

As for your take on passengers not caring how fast the car is going…I know my mother well and she will constantly be bitching about that number on the screen.

I only know that it turns off black and likely touch the screen anywhere to turn it back on or maybe it lights up the 'on' button but I will check later. I think I only did this once when I got it and don't use the passenger display in any way.

Good point if you are unable to not listen to your mother, i'm good at being ignorant and use this with the other half regularly. It doesn't even bother me, i even answer her like I am listening but have no idea what she is saying and no idea what i reply to her! I was disowned by my dad at 15 and mum at 18 so forget about parents, apologies for my lack of understanding. I've also only owned the F8 for a month and have been driving slowly anyway!! While I monitor my own responsibilities, maybe you should keep the display on and listen to her!! She is giving you wise advice and on the occasions she is with you maybe you should listen! or stop and let her out!! no, sorry obviously don't do this but you could simply turn it off and figure out how to turn it back on yourself, i'm sure it's quite simple and Ferrari thought of this.

As I mentioned a long time ago on this topic elsewhere on this forum, what is keeping you from turning your head to see the speedometer primary display when sitting in the passenger seat? I’m just confused how anyone of normal size wouldn’t be able to see that.

It's a waste of money for something so pointless. They should instead spend their design efforts to improve their rather poor current user interface, which is the worst of any car I have ever owned. You have to really take your eyes off the road to look at the results of your interaction with the steering wheel haptics and it can be downright dangerous. Just changing the haptics to buttons does not change the user interface issue, but at least will be slightly more functional.

I don’t know what kind of car you’re visualizing, but in mine the large speedometer on the right is completely obscured by the binnacle. The very small speedometer on the lower left is visible, bit difficult to see due to its size.

Does that clear up your confusion?

It’s really weird to see how much negative emotion this particular option seems to evoke for some people.

No, i have never bought a brand new car as I tell myself I cannot afford them, the reality is the immediate depreciation is why I don't buy brand new.
However, for all my vehicles that I do buy I make sure it is very well specified or over specified for me. Many years ago I bought my wife a 318ti, it was the right size car for her. It had leather seats, air con and sunroof (which back then was rare in the UK as both are not usually optioned together), electric chromatic / auto dimming rear view and side mirrors. For such a vehcile it was very heavily specified. I can only think it was someone quite well off who's wife or even daughter wanted a small car with a lot of options. I take my time, months even, only buy cars that are well specified and try to get a discount if the price is high. Offer what you feel right and just walk away if the answer is 'no'. My F8 was the 2nd highest spec of the 13 in the UK at time of purchase. My intention was not to buy the car as it was not red, just to look at it and understand the options (adac pack, 360 camera). I fell in love instantly and bought it, paid more than I was willing to spend but now I have driven the car I feel I would have paid more! The other F8 that was a higher spec had carbon fibre outside, diffuser, side skirts and front splitter including wheels. This was too much carbon fibre for me as on the lower half of the vehicle is asking for trouble. Front splitter and diffuser will likely need replacing and curbing the wheels is basically a new wheel for £££. It also has a lot of alcantara which I hate. That car is still for sale, also not from official Ferrari dealer.

If I was to buy a car new then yes likely I would tick most options. Lotus Emira at £90K came to £110K with most options ticked. 911 Turbo S comes in at well over £40k for the options and this was not most options at all. Used 992 turbo S start at £130k high mielage older but the ones I look at are £160k - £170k at least, lower mileage and newer.

Indeed, life alone is a money grab, from a £5 product to whatever. At least with Ferrari we all know that nothing is cheap and rightly so. I came from Porsche ownership and now with the boxster, cayman, macan and cayanne they are so common no one cares about them any more. Ferrari is in a different league. I went to the dealer without an appointment and no intention of buying the car but was treated like a king, depends how you talk and carry yourself also.

From any of the display screens, press the back button (looks like a 'return' key) which goes back to the menu and there is a power button to the right (Mine is an F8). Press this to turn the display off. Then simply press anywhere on the display to turn it back on again. Simples. On start up it even displays a sexy horse thing! Who'd have thunk it? If I was alone in the car I would like the horsey thing on the display. However, I'd likely not be alone in such a car for long!!!!
You could set it to music or the NAV however now I'm typing I dont know if these show the speed! I'm sure if you go through each menu there must be some that don't show the speed. Off is good though.

ok additional question in regards to the display. I've owned my F8 for 2.5 years and have never really taken time to go through it-- as far as I can see, the passenger can view things but can't change anything. Is that correct? I THINK maybe they can choose programmed destinations like food or gas from the nav part but they can't actually put a destination in there. Is that right? Otherwise, they can't do anything else like putting music on or changing music or changing any settings, right? So it's truly just a display and not a control unit of any sort, right? But I still like that it's there

Good dealer and these days they better treat you well.
My Ferrari dealer is terrible at every level, my Porsche, Lamborghini and McLaren dealer are 10x better. This week or next will be my last Ferrari from them.

Granted, any Ferrari dealer will treat you like a king if you’re coming in to buy a secondhand car. A new car…that’s something different.

A lot can be said about the apparent arrogance of this company and the way they’ve done things over the years, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s about cultural exclusivity. A company that ‘wants’ to have a relationship with you. Once you get it, it starts to click.
