Wouldn’t be surprised if Red Bull pulled out of F1 soon. Always seemed to be a project Matershitz snr was very keen on but with him deceased, Newey gone, Horner out and possibly Max too I doubt the board will be happy just plodding around the midfield for a decade if it comes to that. They are just a drinks company looking for publicity at the end of the day.

I suppose there were too many enemies inside, not enough results now and too many uncertainties for the future (loss of staff, the unnecessary engine adventure). Nothing lasts forever and 20 years is a lot of time in modern F1.

RedBull and Redbulls(aka Toro Rosso) is not pulling out of F1. Yes, this a major setback with Newey, Wheatley and now Horner leaving......possibly Max leaving later. This is a marketing juggernaut and they're very good at it.

Red Bull is is a marketing operation, not a racing team. They´re so big that they can run for a while just by inertia, but for how long? Five years?

With Horner out of the Corporate protection umbrella - what is next for his legal life with the woman he was texting. What angles does she have legally now. What will Spice Wife do now. What is really happening at home. Being savvy Im not going to be surprised if she has spoken to counsel already about her status and what assets she can gain if they split up. This is not going to be fun for Horner in either case potentially.
HIs clearance on the issue with RedBull and its private investigation was funded out of Thailand. How much data can he be subpoena'd for etc.

Agree'd. Made my afternoon more interesting lol. Just when it appeared we had 18 more days of silly press on what if's on the next race. We have actual news.

    That seems a possible outcome.
The marketing benefit for the drink company will be fading.
If the teams (RBR and RB) cannot be self sufficient financially, they are at risk of being for sale in years to come.

It’s good marketing if they are winning. They can use their championship runs for literally decades. Winning history gets played over and over. If they slip into the mid field I doubt they would stick it out like a proper racing team or manufacturer. They could still hang around as a sponsor for a much smaller investment.

Marketing and winning in F1 are not tied together.

Mercedes still sells cars and they currently aren't winning in F1. They market their cars very well.

Ferrari haven't been winning in F1 for 2 decades and their cars sell still and they don't market their cars.

Red Bull aren't marketing the same kind of products as Mercedes and Ferrari.

There is a lot of competition in the energy drink market; and people follow fashion: they can quickly switch to a different brand.

But where else can Ferrari or Mercedes go? It’s F1 or daylight second place to sports cars in terms of exposure for what they sell. Red Bull could pull their F1 program, pour the money into an expedition to Mars for marketing if they wanted. Buy a Premier league team etc. They can use their marketing budget for anything you can imagine.

How many other sports venue RedBull market their products? You think it's just F1?

RedBull just isn't tied to F1. Do you know how many sporting venues RedBull is tied to?

I know it's not only F1, but in other sports, they are only sponsors, NOT team owners.

    Yes.

It’s not just a case of making up the numbers and that’s good enough. They need to win for it to be effective too. If it was just as case of having a presence and plodding around in 18th place there is a lot bigger corporations that would do it too for marketing.

Anyway, jumping the gun, maybe they put a good team together and continue to have success. Good luck to them.

What's the difference? They market their product very successfully! Again, they are a marketing juggernaut.

Max would be utterly DOMINATING in a Mac this year, and in P1 if he were already at Mercedes. He's driving above the performance level of his current RB car, something MOST drivers cannot do, Yuki being a prime example.

There is a part of this about Horner tied to the failure of the driver in car 2. They paid Sergio about 11 million to leave, another source specifies 18 million. For no real return in terms of WCC. Thats money not in the Team or RedBull Corporate pocket. Car 2 is failure due to the car not being driveable for both as in Mclaren as an ideal. This is all part of the decision executed today. The return on investment for the PU Division matters. Real income generated via winning or doing far better in the WCC via car 2 has a measurable impact financially to the Corporation.

The difference between being team owner or just sponsor is the degree of involvement.
As sponsor, you can switch from team to team depending on their form, and back the most successful.
Red Bull was once only sponsor in F1 with Sauber; it's only opportunity that made them team owners.
Jaguar sold their outfit for a good price, resolving an issue Mateschitz had with Peter Sauber about drivers.
Red Bull don't own KTM in MotoGP, they could switch to Aprilia, or Ducati, possibly BMW next year, etc ...

Yes, success kept them in the game, but while Ferrari or McLaren stay when they´re not winning because it´s part of their business, I don´t think the same applies for Red Bull. For more reference, check Benetton F1.
