Based on the current SP Trend SP4 should be the 1970s and the SP5 the 1980s

This youtuber seems to claim that the SP4 will be called Mugello and be based on the 296 with a manual.

The video is in Italian and I used the auto translate function, so if anyone who can speak Italian can translate/summarize what he said, it’d be appreciated

Back with a post in this thread after a long break…
Last weekend, i had another opportunity to take a close look at both Icona models. They are truly modern classics, a design with historical influences paired with state-of-the-art vehicle technology.
The Ferrari V12 engine has reached the peak of its development here: displacement, power, and torque. You can't get more than that.
The design is a showcase of carbon on carbon. These bodies, made of THE material of racing, literally rise above a carbon platform. And in reality, this looks very impressive.
The Monza SP1 ist a real masterpiece with a very flowing design. But i'm also well with the Daytona SP3. I will never make the mistake again of judging any Ferrari model based on photos because it isn't possible.
From a distance, these Icona models resemble the historic models from the 50s and 60s (look at my photo comparison), but up close, they are far more. And it's also true that the vehicle size has finally been scaled to a proper size.
Even in the Icona series, the seating is still cramped, but it's no longer comparable to the historic racing cars. Everything has simply improved, and you can drive them really fast and with the necessary level of safety.

What can we expect for the SP4? Like many here, i'm hoping for an 80s design with references to a 288 GTO or F40...

Ferrari have shown absolutely no desire to move downmarket for quite a few years now….

Doesn't need to be downmarket. Charge the same as the 296. I doubt they'd have trouble selling a 1,000 units a year at that price, and presumably at even higher margins. An Icona for the masses.

They either don't think the market is there (a little hard to believe) or can't do it because of fleet emissions requirements. Frustrating, if that's the case, that they're expending precious emissions quota on an SUV, though it's easy to imagine that's a sound commercial decision.

I've been trying to imagine what such an F40 homage, an Icona SP4, might look like, and here's my first sketch/attempt.
The previous models in the Icona series are all open-top models, so it’s possible that the new car will also be or have an open-top version.
Yes, I'm very similar to the original (perhaps too similar), but I like the clean and strong lines of the '80s models, so I've only slightly modified the lines.

Cool. I wonder if such a low nose is possible with modern pedestrian safety laws?

It seems so fundamental to the F40 look, I hope it's possible!

Ferrari just trademarked the name “849 Testarossa”, maybe this is the new Icona

Sounds like a name they would choose for a production car… I would expect an Icona to have an “SP” designation followed by a name. The “849” designation looks more like what Ferrari use for production cars

My bet is a One-Off based on SP3.

SO..... A Testarossa Icona driven more off of the design ideas from the 65-ish years ago, NOT 40 years ago

I envision a modern, pontoon fendered car with a mid front V12.

    That could be interesting.

I am not holding the hopes up for any new Icona in the short term.

The Monza took over production space from the LaF Aperta. The SP3 ends production in Q3 this year and we'll have the F80 commence production in Q4. Thus in the current product mix, the space is accounted for. We'll see what they present in the new product plan at CMD, but also take note that none of the regulars have spotted anything that could hint at road testing of an SP car, even under heavy camo as an alternative bodyshell etc. That process starts years before the product is ready for market. It is all very quiet around the coming SP car, all I have seen that could allude at an SP is pictures of an SF90 with tinted windows claiming it had a manual transmission inside.

BTW, I´ve noticed that there hasn´t been any Special Project for a while. Are they still building them?

Not all of them are unveiled public. There was a long waiting list last anybody made a public post about one. They aren’t assembled in the factory so they are easier to deliver overtly.

According to a strong Ferrari client the SP4 will be announced in November.

I think the Icona theme will continue with another 12 cylinder behind the driver like a Testarossa. This Icona design will be more of a wedge shape and none of the previous 'Rubenesque' look. The manual idea has many admirers but few buyers. :(

Pretty sure if they put a manual in an Icona, they'll sell just fine...

Exactly - and that's exactly what they'll do. A regular production series manual might fall victim to the "Everyone talks about wanting it, but few will actually put their money where their mouth is"-fallacy, while an Icona just needs to sell what, 600? Units to their top-paying, top-VIP clients, at whatever price they want to charge for it. Way more managable.
