360 Ryan's Giallo Modena 360 Modded Build

I decided to tackle the window trim repair yesterday. It came out better than I expected using VHT Primer and SEM Satin Black trim paint. I sanded most of the finish off using 400 grit sand paper which went pretty quickly.

I do wish I had done the other side too since this side now looks better and upon closer inspection, the other side is showing early signs of starting to flake. Will tackle that another weekend.

I took the 360 out to Willow Springs over the weekend to do Streets of Willow. While I raced karts when I was younger, this was actually my first outing on the track with a real car. I signed up with the beginner group per the instructions. The structure was two lead-follow sessions that were fairly slow, much slower than canyon speeds and then two sessions on our own. Me being overly competitive, I did finally pull the trigger on getting a racing sim setup the other week so I logged probably 100+ laps in Assetto Corsa ahead of the weekend.

On our first session out on our own, I made sure to line up first. We had a wide range of driver skill sets in our group and we were required to only pass by point by on the front and back straight. One of the guys had a GT4RS and used to race karts as well, so him and one other guy were the quicker in the group. That session ended up being interesting. I hit the out lap at a pretty quick pace while taking the chicane of death pretty gingerly and then logged two laps at 1:35ish (ended up being the best time of the group by about 1.5s) until we hit the back markers of our group and after that it was a matter of fighting traffic.

For the last session, I lined up early and first again. My buddy rode along in this session. I went full send right out the gate and managed to spin out on turn 3 second lap:



After starting again and navigating through traffic, I upped the pace through chicane of death, hitting somewhere between 110-120. You can see the car get light and wiggle around after the cones on this lap. After that, I figured I should probably dial it down a bit because spinning at that speed would be less okay...

All in all, the car did pretty well. I was concerned about the brakes overheating and while I wasn't maximizing the braking points, I didn't experience any brake fade in the session (I was conscientious to ease off every so many laps). The PS4s got greasy pretty quickly too, so you really had to get the good laps in the first few.

The liveliness of the car is a little bit of a liability on the track because it was harder to discern what the car was doing. If I were to track it more often, I'd definitely swap in race pads, better tires, lower to CS spec and get some uprated springs as well as the stiffer rear ARB to dial out the understeer. With that being said, it did better than I expected at the track. My braking points were losing a lot of time and I'm a little disappointed I didn't get a sub 1:30 time but given the relatively little amount of actual track time we got, a 1:33.2 on the new configuration with the longer skid pad section wasn't awful. Most importantly, I had fun and made it home safely.
