Well, I am not so sure.

It’s true that few decades ago, Ferrari wasn’t much interested in its history and willing to invest in preserving the heritage. Things have changed a lot since then. The classiche department is now an important thing and the brand has well understood that his glorious history is the best thing to build on.

Top management made very clear over the last years that all cars, including hybrid or even electric, should remain operational a hundred years or more from now.

This is why they now want to develop full knowledge of electric components, including batteries and software and be capable to produce them in house (for batteries they only purchase cells outside). The goal is to ensure that today’s batteries and systems can be maintained in the future and future technologies can be retrofitted to older cars. This is very new, I agree, but things have changed.

 

Im sure it will be great, theres no way they will let you make a mistake, but you have to be sure you love it. Its just not one of my preferences.

 

Yes, 100% true. As a person who has restored two 1960 250 cars, both of which were barn finds and in serious disarray, we were able to source, remanufacture parts in order to complete the projects.

They are adopting a modular, aviation inspired approach, designing parts to be easily removed, replaced, and updated. It’s a recognition that these cars are more than just automobiles, they are enduring expressions of "industrial art".

 

BTW received pricing for my F80 today, base MSRP $3,375,000.00 USD, and the cost of options are CRAZY!!

I think I am going to keep my spec under wraps for now, sorry...

 

My car has 500K in options therefore sticker is 4.3 all in with tariffs, but without state taxes.

Indeed but tariffs and other pricey options are probably meaningless for people lucky enough to be on the F80 buyers short list.

I religiously keep several old issues of Sport Auto and Automobiles Classiques. The October 2012 issue of AC is one I revisit repeatedly because, in addition to the F12B test, it also has an excellent multi-page article—the best of its kind I've come across—about the history of the Berlinetta and Pininfarina's Ferrari designs. Regarding the SA article on the F80, I couldn't find it online.

Congratulations to you and other F80 owners. This is best car in the world. Of course hope at least you post pictures when car will delivered plus maybe story of specing car from confiugrator to reality. If I remember you talked about special paint. I think expect crazy nice spec.

The option price list is actually pretty standard which is good. Where my build became pricy is some of the different and unique things added. For example I took a standard stripe and did a unique treatment to it, this added 100K. I used the ghost carbon on the outside of the car, this added 80K. I set up a call to better understand the pricing. Sorry the documents are listed as confidential therefore I am a bit hesitant to share them.

Yes, I was developing a custom color but unfortunately I was not able to achieve my goal. lucky enough, Aldo at Tailor Made understood my vision and found a color that looked 90% close to what I was trying to achieve. Its a color I believe they have not sprayed yet, so me and the car are happy to lead the way. Its a 4 layer paint so its super reflective with extremely bright highlights.

 

Many years ago Automobiles Classiques drove the brand new Testarossa and reported on it. Where everyone else had the obligatory Rosso Corsa version they somehow obtained a gorgeous example painted Argento Nurburgring with a tan interior. These days all the test cars look the same with only a license plate number to differentiate.
Back when the 458 Italia was introduced in 2009 all the press cars were Rosso Corsa. A journalist friend was invited to drive the new Italia but when his turn arrived it seems the prior journalist had damaged the Italia he was scheduled to drive. Ferrari came to him and suggested they could instead pull out the Giallo Triplo Strato 458 Italia showcar. He agreed and was the only journalist to get pictures of that showcar during his test drive.
I wonder if any journalist will get to drive the Giallo Triplo Strato F80 for their story? Or it will simply be 'All in Red' nowadays.

 

Are people flipping F80 allocations already? Especially in the US? If so, how much are they going for?

 

Very happy will read all story from start idea to final real car. 4 layer paint which was never used plus other special options sound extremly good. Also if I remember good, start idea was liquid silver / chrome shade paint. Truly I cant wait. Sadly now start phase of long time waiting. Also as often happen those top or very individual specs go to the end of production , but of course I expect that longer waiting will cost for final result. Congrats !!! I expect many top and amazing specifications for F80, but fairly I say now your spec expect as top of the top after production end.

 

These stories of the giallos are very interesting and they show how, at that time, magazines and journalists did everything possible to stand out from their peers. In the case of Automobiles Classiques it also had excellent illustrations that gave the articles a special charm, something that's rarely seen today.

seams like TM cars do take longer, my 296 GTS took over two years, but my 812 Comp came in under a year, I think the first one in the US, which was surprising. Just need to sit back and wait, which is kind of part of the fun.

 

Not sure how someone could sell their allocation, we all signed paperwork which ties up the car for two years. Additionally, the contract also states that Ferrari can pull the allocation at anytime, so if they witnessed someone selling their allocation they could pull their slot from them. finally, you would also be "black balled" from Ferrari and destroy your standing, so not really worth the risk I would think. You can always sell the car after two years and not worry about the legal ramifications.
