It's been asked here a few times over the years.....but always seems to be a dream list of a lot of out of reach cars for most. So adding this little twist on the question ...a cap of say, today valued at $400k....or lower.

What would be your one and only Ferrari if you had to keep forever?

The budget kind of limits you to modern cars... so I would say an F8 or 599 or 812... I think the F8 is about the best looking car they have made since the 308.

I want to say a 330gtc... but I would only afford a basket case car... :(

For $400K I'd rather have two cars, in order to have very different experiences (a recent car and an older one) :p
But playing by the rule of one single car, I'd probably go for an old V12 - in Europe it seems a nice 330 GT 2+2 could be had in this budget (a 250 GT 2+2 is a stretch).

With that budget the 330 and 250's would all be some form of project car, or ones that really need a lot of restoration work... that takes the pleasure out of it for me. if the budget was $800K it would be 330gtc with steel pressed wheels, in light blue metallic with black interior....

Just a few examples, better than project cars I hope:

A 250 is definitely at the limit though: https://www.carjager.com/acheter/voiture-collection/ferrari-250-gte-22-CJVCL0307240820JOX.html

lovely cars. I have driven all those noted, and they are fun. the 330 GT is a bit big, which is why I like the gtc better... plus the gear box is better. the Overdrive in the gt's can be a problem, and it really needs that in modern traffic. but they do sound great. the 250 GTE is now a rare car because so many were butchered to make TR and GTO replicas... but the 250's are work to drive... but sound great.

It depends on if its my only car or not.

If its my only car than a Portofino M

If its my fun car then theres really nothing under $400k that truly gets my heart racing. Id probably get a 430 spider with a 6spd.

Depends on use case scenario (weekends only? backup daily? 3 season or just sunny days? etc) but easily either my 512TR or 575m. Maybe a 456M if you said I had to also haul around kids

But yeah, a $400K cap rules out many nice classics.

My understanding is that only the first series 330 GT 2+2 have the overdrive, the series 2 (single headlamps) as well as the so called "interim" series 1 have a 5-speed gearbox.

I think it’d have to be one of these guys:

Doubtful one of the 11 originals could be had for <$400k, but there are some wonderful recreations being made by Makela Auto Tuning

Why put a limit on value if it is never to be sold?
