Holy thread resurection! I stand by my 20 year old write up and out working on my car out on stands right now. I would love a lift but my garage is too small, plus I have two in there now! I think the two floor/trolley jack from either side located where the "factory" jack points for the flat tire are still the best. I had an emergency and jacked the car up without the ramps once just using the jacks and not the ramps but would only do that a in case of emergency. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/chapter-one-jacking-up-the-308-gt4-ferrari.61449/ As you can see I use all my various stands around the car in case of an earthquake or natural disaster, and move them around for access . I am lucky I have one of the old school lincoln floor jacks (now called Hein-Werner HW93652 3 Ton Service Floor Jack) and their 6 ton (per pair) jack stands. Friends, Here are the replacement floor jack and stands that are pretty nice and safe.... Hein-Werner HW93652 3 Ton Service Floor Jack https://www.amazon.com/Hydraulic-Service-Jack-tons/dp/B00C75QWHQ/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2CAWVI7OEOGBI&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.GmH5wwQChkDooGchBtoMpmnSzh9uSrb5owsmMq_UwdBX8iUqgM4ptHpmc-m3cdseDVytQxra6E1uon7c2eYEKpCXM7SVYXPgGYLeCM8P5b9XnfQdeFI0_9cyjHGCdacINYSBmZoyOfd2FSN5JQZ7npY35-unTHCYqFnvKZBVV_p-yxLnBfW34oUCPiCqfcgWZMPMxWZcvnH_naWUn4YHmyyJ4T0DY5giW2_K7DfXskU.m6O1ffc7eZSOGrf5VmHyeU8udbkWCWNCJOqMohzNG18&dib_tag=se&keywords=hein+werner+3+ton+floor+jack&qid=1754424471&sprefix=werner+floor+jack%2Caps%2C198&sr=8-4 Obviously there are cheaper ones available but there are heavy duty! I also have one of these. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sxt-6603aj Rob
https://www.achydraulic.com/products/hydraulic-jacks/dk20-3600000/ This was the best jack I have ever had. It is very low profile and will get under our cars. That plus some good jack stands and you are good to go. I leave the jack lightly tensioned in a suitable lift location when the jack stands are on as a extra redundancy.
Not a very good picture, but this is where I've been lifting my car with a floor jack. Maybe not such a good idea? Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the shield that the light is shining on? No, not a good idea at all! If I need to lift just the rear then I use a hockey puck on the jack saddle , slide a couple of pieces of board between the ARB and the crossmember & then lift it in the middle there. The stands go under the chassis rails just about where the wishbones attach. I know there has always been a debate about lifting via the rear X member but I was told to do it that way by one of the (Ferrari trained) Indy's in these parts years ago & its never caused an issue. I never leave it on the jack. If I need the whole car in the air then where possible I leave it on its wheels & jack it from the side jacking points up onto wooden blocks under each wheel. I made them years ago out of 4x2. I have two blocks that can go under each wheel which means I put one side onto a block at each end, then put the other side straight onto 2 blocks stacked & then go back & lift the first side again to get a second block under each wheel. That gives me enough room to get under it for oil changes etc. Its a bit laborious but it works & its higher than I can get it on stands. I'm moving house soon & I am refusing to buy anything that won't take a 2 post lift. Getting too old to crawl around the floor anymore!
Many thanks! So, maybe the simplest and safest would be for me to use a floor jack on the jack point to raise the car, then slip a block under the rear tire and repeat that on the other side . . . or just sync the oil changes with when my car is in the shop for other work
No' I'd never do that either. If you are lifting from the side then you need to support both ends of the car. If you only put a stand under the rear and let the front back down to the floor then you are twisting the shell & that way lies cracked glass!
