I don’t think it’s the official name yet. It’s been put on hold as market conditions change. I think that’s a smart move, sometimes the world takes a little longer to catching to certain preferences. I’m old enough to remember folks saying they wouldn’t be caught dead using seatbelts. Most turned out honest about that.

 

I do have a problem with hybrid.

But...

I have far less of a problem with hybrid than full EV.

Full EV on these cars is going to be an absolutely terrible idea and just isn't compatible with the use case of these cars.

Also I think you will see that insurance companies will not allow full EVs in large buildings with car collections due to increased risk of major fire.

Ferrari doesn't care about the use case.

They care if they can sell it.

You can sell terrible ideas. Especially in limited quantities

 

Low use is not good for batteries. And while it will be fast it's just going to be a lame one truck pony.

I do like the 296 though. Hate the sf90

Well I'm sure you can drive it frequently. But the reality Will be that he will be relegated to the use of maybe 2,000 miles a year for most people and that would be if they use it a lot. The simple fact of the matter batteries not want to stay static they want to charge and discharge all of those battery packs will get ruined due to a lack of sufficient cycles

 

Have a Taycan Turbo S. Drive about 2500 miles a year. Sits quite a bit. No problem whatsoever. The issue with batteries for EVs is when they are totally ignored and discharge over time or are not properly charged before sitting. Owners of the Ferrari electric are more likely to be extremely careful with the car to make sure that the battery is maintained properly. In fact, similar to the trickle chargers that almost every Ferrari owner uses for the ICE vehicles, Ferrari will probably develop something similar to prevent possible degradation, if there isn't already something on the market. Maybe even something by Antigravity?

 

Ferrari can’t ignore the fact that at some point their future will have to have a significant, if not major, EV component. It makes sense to keep a close eye on technology and continue to develop their version whatever that might be. The difficulty for them will be timing and where their product will fit in the market given they have many competitors (mostly Chinese) that have a significant head start and far better research and development resources. Vigna, if he’s still around, will have to learn to be a bit more humble and less arrogant if he and his colleagues are to make themselves relevant in the EV market place of the future.

When we look at hybrids today, how does Ferrari perform? If I read the SF90 and 296 forums, a lot of threads discuss the need to charge this way and that way and how to deal with battery problems etc. so it seems Ferrari hybrid technology needs a bit of work. I’m not talking about performance I’m more thinking about having a worry free hybrid system. The main stream hybrid market generally doesn’t have this problem so it’s totally beyond me why Ferrari can’t get this right and make charging/battery worries a thing of the past. Ferrari is fortunate that most owners of their hybrids are willing to put up with this substandard attitude. Potentially these cars are great and I would have thought instead of spending significant sums on developing EV’s, stage one should be to get their hybrid technology including battery technology to be bulletproof proof and worry free. Then once they have that sorted take the time to get their EV technology right.
