OK so forgive my ignorance - why would someone do that? Severe damage that wiped out the original stamp? Attempting to disguise a car that has been stolen? Shoddy resto work that compromised the original stamping? oh boy…
oh boy indeed that car has no identity, does it have a body number or engine number that can be crossed referenced......regardless of any of the above the " DGM dino 246 stamping" appears to be original so it must of just been that section that was damaged! Doubtful...... I would recommend you seriously consider your options, for me i would walk away and find another as this will bite you on any resale.
I’m looking at auction results and it looks to me like this happens A LOT. I have been spoiled by the relative simplicity of slightly more modern conquests
Moderators - is it possible to take this thread down for now? I have been in contact with the seller’s representative and they are consulting with the experts to iron out any areas of speculation. I am absolutely CERTAIN this is a genuine effort as I have known the person representing the car for the seller for years and consider him a friend and know him to be a very solid guy. Perhaps the thread can reappear once their investigations are complete? Thanks!
Still hazardous to be posting a car's chassis number with a very iffy portrayal on a very public site, and I think a tad late for said request, as it serves us all in Dinoland to be on the lookout. Cannot believe it was sold and bought. Yikes. Lawsuits galore. Would you stick your hands in the fire on this car? I mean, this is outright forgery, even if the numbers are real!!! Even if it were my mother's car, I find this very, extremely compromising. Genuine, possibly, probably bonafide, yet extremely False looking. As an aside, a dear friend of mine, once kidnapped our common great friend, here were I live, so nothing surprises me anymore. He would go and visit daily with the parents of his VICTIM, and console them. So, as you may imagine, and begging your pardon, I am skeptical. Unfortunately he managed to run away to another nearby country, I hope he's dead (excruciatingly painfully) by now, and fortunately, our 'common friend' is still alive. Please forgive my utter disbelief Hope it works out for the best, but regrettably, I would not take this car as a gift, unless you went to the Factory and have them: re-whatever it takes to be kosher again. Regards, Alberto
Well, so we are clear, I posted it here to get info, as I’ve done for many cars and many people here do. I had no idea it would spiral into this kind of thing because I have NEVER encountered anything like this. Out of respect for my friend who asked the thread be closed, I submitted the above post. I am at this point not buying the car, but I am certainly open to whatever light Matthias and Massini (whom I understand have been contacted or are in the process of being contacted) may be able to shed on its story. Unless someone here knows 100% that there is some nefarious backstory, I don’t think it’s unfair to wait and see what can be ascertained. I of course agree that if there is something funny with the car then the community will need to know…but I am positive that the current owner is in NO way complicit in such a thing and at worst bought something that was misrepresented. All of the pictures reviewed were generated prior to his involvement with the car, and I think it is fair to let him work through whatever it is and hopefully find a reasonable explanation then bring the car back to market with whatever the reliable experts determine.
I think by posting here you dodged an expensive and embarrassing bullet! Count your lucky stars!! It will be interesting to hear what transpires and what the real identity of the Dino is. For comparison, the Brian Pollock sold for $511K. I think most would agree this was one of the great Dinos! https://www.goodingco.com/lot/1970-ferrari-dino-246-gt-l-series/
It is good to the community that you exposed Dino 02416 for all to see. Also you now see that the most important safety part of buying a Dino is not chat here but to get the true BARTZ report Sometimes spending the money not to buy a wrong one is the smart play!
Is it possible to match the engine number to a vin and if the engine is correct for the vin shown would it be kosher to atleast make a note that it is indeed the correct car just a restamp due to what ever maybe an accident or ???
In my part of the world you (no matter what) need a certification from the authorities stating the back ground for the re-stamping and approving it. Best, Peter
" ..... went to the Factory and have them: re-whatever it takes to be kosher again." Mind you, I would prefer 'real' numbers stamped properly. Best of luck on your quest. Regards, Alberto
