Refinished the heat shields while there were out. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cleaned, greased and installed the parking brake pulleys. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Installed the valve covers. Luckily the paint was in good condition so I didn't have to refinish them. The wrench shown below is great to put on the rear covers. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Installed the intake. I thought this would be awful, but it really wasn't bad. Nut wax is key to holding the nut in place while installing them. I just used a mixed set of wobble extensions to get the nuts on. Installed the belt covers. This will be the end of the updates for a bit, as I need the headers before moving on. They will hopefully ship out this week. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Cut down the shift paddles and painted them black to fill in the gap. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fabio exhaust has arrived and installed. Few Tips: -Driver side cat has to be put in the car before the header is installed -Driver side cat mounting tab needs to be bent a bit to clear the steering shaft. -Driver side thermocoupler needs to be installed sometime before the passenger down pipe. Finished the engine bay up. Still need to add coolant. Pre-bled the power steering. Did an initial brake bleed. I'll probably have to do this again after I get into the abs. Clutch bleeding has been a bit tough. I pressure bled and then idid a reverse bleed. Then pressure bled it again. I have found low pressure is much better for bleeding clutch's. Fingers crossed I am good. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Update.. The car is running and driving now. The manual swap and the Fabio exhaust total transform the car. I could not be happier! The exhaust sounds good without being too loud. Thanks so much for all your help(Especially Robin, Sam, and Fabio). I will get some pictures once the car is cleaned up.
Amazing work! Do the headers create any drone when cruising? I’m trying to decide if Fabio’s or Supersprint headers give the best performance and sound without getting rid of it GT quiet crushing character.
Hi @wilhit10, thanks for the reply and sorry taking so long to follow up.. slowly catching up from a long vacation and seeing my first off to college.. I finally studied the parts diagrams and think I now understand that for each side, there is a bearing in the block and one in the cover that support the short shaft driven by the crankshaft to drive the timing belt drive pulley. The front/cover bearing is 171057, and Hill have their own improved replacement for the NLA part: https://www.hillengineering.co.uk/engine-related/bearings/170787 which I assume is what you used? The rear/block side bearing is 171177, which doesn't seem to have an improved version available? So you sourced that from Ferrari? Thanks for documenting all this in such detail, wish you were in the Boston area and I could pay you to sort my 550 out.. thanks, Greg
Greg message me. I actually have a spare new set of HIL outer bearings and the newer style inner bearings. I can sell you those if your are interested. 171057 - HIL bearing * 2 (NTN brand) 171177 - Inner bearing.. SKF I bought from super performance. These are metal race bearings vs plastic races. Hope this helps. Adam
I am finally finishing up this car. Typically what I do with any modernish Ferrari is replace all the air/fuel sensors. This includes the maf's, plugs and the oxygen sensors. This is what I consider a modern "tune up.: I know there is a lot of discussion of front and rear up stream sensors. I used Bosh 17001 for both front and rear. I do not think there is any difference between the actual front and rear sensors themselves. You do need to move over the mounts from the old sensors to the new sensors. The connectors are not keyed, so you need to keep track which is which. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
