As some regular FChatters will be aware, I keep a log of PTU failures and have been posting updates on the long running FF PTU Design Flaw thread. However, the stats get lost as the thread evolves and there is no single thread for logging PTU failures. For example, a couple have just popped up on the Lusso PTU thread rather than the FF PTU Design Flaw thread where others have been posted. Paul (@Nospinzone ) suggested that I start a new thread dedicated only to logging PTU failures and keeping the database up to date. Since the FF fleet is now, on average 10 years old, it would seem like a good time to maintain a specific thread to keep track of PTU failures as the cars continue to age. I would also like to thank @Jaguar36 who started the original database which I validated and added to. So without further ado, here are the stats and some observations; There are now 36 confirmed PTU failures reported on FChat. There are other anecdotal failures too - a couple with track abuse and one with front end crash damage. Ferrari built c.2,850 FFs. According to the annual report, Europe and The Americas account for c.65% of sales so roughly 1855 FFs are registered in these countries. I think it’s unlikely that owners outside these geographies would find their way to FChat to discuss/log a PTU failure (due to language differences) and not all owners will come here seeking information - particularly if the PTU was fixed under warranty. The best case failure rate is if we have a record of all PTU failures (and we know for a fact that we don’t). Of the 36 reported PTU failures, 27 are for FFs. In that case, the best case failure is 1.46% over a weighted fleet age of 10.25 years. That’s a failure rate of 0.142% per annum. If only 15% of the owners with a PTU problem reported it on here then the true failure rate would be 0.95% each year. That’s equivalent to 18 cars a year in Europe+Americas or 27 cars a year worldwide. What is notable is that while the list of cars reported on FChat has continued to grow since I first started keeping the log a few years ago, the calculated failure rate of 27 cars a year worldwide has not varied much. Finally, please may I ask that we keep this thread exclusively for reporting PTU failures with details of the mileage at point of failure, age at point of failure and date of first registration. Any requests for help or feedback on repairs or PTU experiences should be posted in any of the other long running Lusso or FF PTU threads. Thank you and I hope the forum finds this resource useful.

Great thread, thank you for your contribution! Would it be possible to find out whether the repairs were done using factory parts or aftermarket solutions? And how are those holding up?
Mine has 25K with no issues. The thing I love about the work ANOpax has done with this is to bring some objective data to counter the speculative argument about failure rate. While it doesn't cover the entire FF market (no one can), it addresses a sufficient sampling size showing that the problem isn't as widespread as most have speculated. Unfortunately, every Ferrari has its known problems and the market adjusts to that with service offerings that make it somewhat manageable. It just takes time.

Thank you. I have logged any pertinent comments regarding the repairs but I am reliant on owners like Eric ( @gilly6993 ) coming back on here to update us with their progress. Unfortunately this doesn't always happen as people move on from the car or the forum - you can see how many of the posters on the failure log have a low post count. However, if more information is forthcoming, I will add it.
My 2012 FF with 13,700 miles, no issues, except for this morning. Parked it after 15 minute drive and started it 1 hour later and "Go to dealer" message came up, That's why I'm here. Started 20 minutes later, all good! Normal? Have owned car for 6 months.
Could be nothing more than a tired battery. PTU failures tend to be more specific with a ‘Manettino failure’ or ‘ATF fluid low’ message rather than a ‘go to dealer’ which is a very general failure message.
Us based 2015 ff bought the car at 15k miles with a failed ptu (didn't know it was bad and dealer is paying for it) also per luxtec someone had already replaced or worked on the ptu. So 2 bad ptus at 15k miles lol.. someone has also been in the trans before as well so this should be fun
Where are you getting it fixed? Just cause someone worked on it before doesn't mean that they actually fixed it properly so I wouldn't count that as two bad ptus.
Sorry to hear that you’re already having drama before your FF love affair has had a chance to begin. It’s good that the selling dealer is standing behind the car though and sorting you out. I have logged your car in the database.
Is a decreasing oil level and a broken circlip enough to qualify as PTU FAILURE, or must there be a certain error message on the dash?
Just purchased 2017 lusso from a Ferrari dealer - it received a PTU replacement Dec 23 at 21k under warranty at dealer initiative.

Hey Team, Had a great day at Blackhorse Garage up in Bridgeport today, but unfortunately, (ironically too as we were just discussing it before I departed) -- Please add me to the PTU failure list -- was pulling out of the meet-up and sure enough -- AWD Fail / Mannetino Fail / WET. I'm in year 13 of the Factory POWER15 Warranty under which the PTU is covered. I've already reached out to my dealership rep at Miller Motorcars in Greenwich. So for the table above -- Location: Connecticut Fail Date: 10/25/2025 Model: FF Mileage: 25000 Year: 2012 I'll keep you posted on the adventure as this unfolds -- sad, but hopefully Power15 covers everything....ptc
