$4800 for the windshield, $1000 for the install. Cracked it last August during the factory shutdown and new ordering system which messed up inventory. Taking our JCW Mini next week for a windshield replacement, guessing $1200. Anyway, been driving my Rosso Corsa / Nero 458 Spider for eight years. Amazing car. My niece is getting very comfortable driving it as well, although she still loves her two Miatas. Rob

Thanks for the link to the skin. did you install it yourself and from the price I assume you went with the 8mil product as opposed to the 12mil. Any reason you went with the 8, I'm guessing price?? Thanks
My son and I installed it, it took about 10 -15 minutes. Very easy. Yes I went with the 8 mm because I don’t drive the car very much and definitely not off-road as the larger gauge implied was suggested. The 12 mil description said it was for people who drive off road and with lots of debris, which is definitely not my Ferrari‘s life style
I have the 8mil windshield skin installed on my 458 for the last year. Its saved my windshield many times now. Small rocks are a non event. The sound is dulled and it doesn't even sound like a rock impact. I've had a few large impacts that made me nervous, but with the ppf, they will go through the ppf, however it won't crack the glass or create a large gaping chip. It'll create a tiny pit. Significantly better than without.
Thanks for the insight on the glass skin. I think I'm going to go for the 8mil solution. I'll probably look at what Excel also offers as a skin. I think there is one other major competition so I'll do research on the 3.

My niece (who was briefly staying with us) took her ND Miata back home and I took my wife's X5 in for service. Brought the Maserati Gran Turismo back from service today parked next to my G29 Z4.
Congrats on your new 458, it's beautiful. My F430 is being picked up today and a new to me 458 will be delivered in a couple weeks. Having Novitech springs installed, new wheels and tires, and new exhaust before delivery. For all the purists out there, I am keeping all the OEM parts as well. Looking forward to the upgrade.
JTR, Thats cool that you had a 430 and are now going to a 458. You'll get to see and feel the evolution of the cars. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts between the two. I finally got my license plate and took off the dealer one on my car and found 4 holes for bolts. ugggg. All the best, jim

Medlee07, Actually the dealer that I bought the car from used their standard shipping agent who then called me and told me how he was going to proceed. The actually transport company was GREAT. The car came in an enclosed 53 ft trailer. They were also hauling a few Lambo's. so they knew about Ferrari's. I mean if you never even started one, would you know how to? It was a great overall experience and the driver was awesome as well. He showed me the other cars in the transport.
UPDATE: My car has quite a few options already except it doesn't have the carbon steering wheel with shift lights. I tracked one of them down and will now install it. I also order a set of carbon paddle shifters off of eBay. I just got them and they are light and well made. I'm quite impressed with them actually. I also ordered and installed an aluminum "dead pedal" plate for the driver side. It looks just like the OEM throttle and brake pedals. I did order the 12mil Windshield Skin and just got that. I'll let you all know how that install goes.
My other replacement for this weekend is the battery. I'm not sure how old the existing battery in the car is so it gets replaced this weekend. The other items to spend more money on is to get a key code card and a second key, both of which were missing when I bought the car. A ferrari dealer can order the key code card for $95 and the key for another grand. Ouch. The holiday fun thing to do is to start working on a few of the sticky buttons and the wrinkled leather on one of the A pillars. Oh...on the license plate mounting: The previous owner of the car drilled holes in the car to mount the plate and didn't do a very good job. I'm going to enlarge those holes and out in threaded rivet nuts. Take about being a bit nervous....nothing like drilling holes in a Ferrari. But I need to fix this up. You all take care!!! Jim
The battery change was easy but took a while due to its location in the car. Right now the only real "complaints" I have on the car are: If you are coasting a slight touch of the gas pedal makes the engine "blip" (only word I can think of right now) and the buttons on the back of the steering wheel are in a terrible position since the paddle shifters are in the way. I still need to start working on the sticky button situation. Maybe this weekend. I also notice that once driving the car I never want to get out of it. I've already put more miles on the car than some put in all year. But I didn't buy the car to just look cool in the garage.
