As Daniel said on August 29th the $800 DeMinimus exception is being abolished which means that regardless of value ALL packages are subject to duty, brokerage, and tariffs where applicable. This is going to be brutal because most carriers charge a flat fee for lower value brokerage and it is normally $20-50 dollars. Expect to get that bill for every package regardless of cost even if taxes, duties, or tarrifs don't apply.

It is worthy to note that duties are tariffs are not necessarily the same thing and it is not often enough discussed. Many of the sweeping tariffs being imposed are ON TOP OF the duties already applying to certain products. The total increases between new tariffs and brokerage are massive and will directly impact what we pay for most things. Trying to keep this out of P&R but this situation is unprecedented

Blimey! its getting worse for the UK to ship to the States. one of our carriers has contacted us and said they aren't shipping anything to the States until Tuesday of next week. We are still shipping, but using DHL where it is a lot more expensive. Hopefully we will here back from our other shipper on Tuesday. However we might have to do some more shopping around.

DHL is in a strange spot, because they've been the postal-esque carrier for a lot of the small & low-value parcels from Asia, in addition to being used by some European vendors to circumvent tighter CBP inspection and audit of incoming parcels who undervalue or intentionally fudge the HTS codes and material country of origin on their shipments.

Both NZ and Australia post have notices on their websites stating we cannot send anything other than letters and documents to the US until the collection of tariffs is clarified.

Hey Guys... My recent purchase experience with buying these small plastic fuel line clips from Supervisor UK... This is totally extortion from DHL... I had to pay attentional $93.88 in TAXES before they deliver my package to me... So in total, these small parts cost me $286.88 ... THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING FROM OVER SEAS!!!!!!! This is total crap, they don't tell you what its going to cost, they just spring it on you, knowing you will pay it....

Who should have paid the $93.88, if not you?

(Yes, I know - not all of that amount is the tariff, some of it is a handling fee that DHL charges for collecting it and forwarding it to the feds along with necessary paperwork and we can reasonably argue that they’re overcharging. But for the part that is tariff…. Who else is going to pay it?)

I understand, however nothing is communicated before the purchased... If you know how much a purchased is going to be, would you still buy it???? I can understand if the part I was buying was much larger then just a few plastic clips, but that's ridiculous to charge that much, which is total crap... Keep in mind that I'm just sharing the frustration and unfairness of my purchase. Its appears that DHL has a fixed cost regardless the weight, value, etc.. as I paid the exact amount when I purchased a $350 BBR model a month ago from Italy... so that's not right from DHL

Unfortunately the labor is no different to process a 1lb box of diamonds or a 1lb box of Bic pens.

The "import duty" is courtesy of the U.S Government, who recently decided not follow the previous "de minimis" policy of not charging import duty on personal imports below $800. I suggest you direct your complaints to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW.

I have a better solution… I won’t buy anything else. I could easily live without these clips, I just didn’t imagine the final cost of them once everyone finished screwing me for them…

There are three levels of duties for items valued under $800 depending on where the item was manufactured. That lasts for 6 months and then they all get charged the percentage tariff. Shippers have a choice until 6 months from now if they want to charge the flat amount regardless of item cost or calculate a percentage. It looks like you got screwed and got charged a flat rate. For example, an item made in China would get at $200 flat charge as a choice instead of 35% or whatever it is even for a $5 item. What country was your product manufactured? If it was somewhere other than China and it arrived into the US before August 29th you shouldn't have had to pay duties. I've read DHL trying to claim they are supposed to charge duties based on delivery date to your house and not day it entered the US, which is not true. Call them and complain and get your refund if it's a non-China made good and it got onto US soil and into Customs before Aug 29th (if it was in a bonded warehouse before going into Customs and Customs was Aug 29th then you're prob screwed). Also unless SCOTUS goes against two lower court rulings, these tariffs are not legal and we should all be refunded so keep records of your payments.

HO-LY CRAP! I don’t see this going over well with the general American population. Sorry you’re dealing with this, but thanks for bringing it to our attention

    Good day,

UPS is actually much worse than DHL or Fed Ex. Depending upon the UPS shipping method, UPS would charge a precentage of the shipments's value as part of their "fees" + collect any of the appropriate taxes/tarrifs + a "bond" fee for paying these charges on the recipient's behalf. I recently received a UPS shipment that was to include all of their fees... well, UPS decided that I had too many line items on the invoice and so they charged me $10 per line item in addition to all of the Gov charges. The final bill was 2x the actual Gov charges (tariffs/taxes). I just paid the bill and vowed to never use UPS for shipping.

The moral of the story is to look beyond the shipping cost and consider all of the various fees that some shipping firms (like UPS, etc) add to the final bill.

    Cheers,

    Sam

    This is well stated. Unprecedented.

Another way to look at it is the general public is just now being exposed to the same tariffs that suppliers like Daniel have been dealing with for some time. In addition to the cost, there is also a lot of uncertainty as to how the tariffs will be applied.

For a shipment worth hundreds of Dollars, not knowing if you will owe 15%, 27.5%, or more is a problem. Now imagine that problem on a commercial shipment worth several hundred thousand Euros...

Just paid almost $2k tariff for my Tubi exhaust on 308, thought ordering before Aug 1 would prevent but didn't. Glad we are protecting that unnamed American who wants to produce and sell exotic car aftermarket exhausts.

Made from steel. Auto parts. Imported from EU. Wham, bam, that'll be 2 grand.

I'm absolutely fine with the idea of bringing manufacturing jobs to the United States. I'm absolutely fine with the idea of thoughtful (and maybe even harsh) economic strategies to moderate our trade imbalances around the world.

But dear reader, tariffs ain't the solution. Never have been. Never will be.

From my knowledge you would have gotten nailed for the following fees:

    - Duty on the exhaust because it was over $800 (threshold gone as of August 29th). This duty would cover auto parts and is nothing new.
    - Blanket tariff of 15% because the product is made in Italy. These are among the new tariffs.
    - Blanket tariff of 50% on the steel in your exhaust. Again these are new
    - Brokerage charges by the carrier. Not new

Importing anything in the US is getting wildly expensive and the cost of most items will rise dramatically.
