so then the next few weeks you will enjoy very much looking for a for you matching BB or BBj. please report back how you feel the difference between carb and injected
Yes, I will do. I have a history of jumping into things way too fast! As in, buying the first car I test, and later regretting it This time, I will do more research.
IMHO: You won't have regrets getting too many / any Ferrari. But you might not enjoy getting any car with problems that are difficult to correct. Having to do a major service on a new purchase is not unexpected. Years as much as miles creep up and rubber is shot. Don't forget tires. Tread might look perfect on aged tires, and the handling will be off. The first honeymoon is acquisition, but the better honeymoon comes when the car is sorted. Ie, some minor body or interior issue that's bothering you, or a flat spot that is crying for a distributor service etc. etc. is taken care of. That's when you get the big smile for the opportunity to go for a ride.
Boxers are simply great, whats known as a drivers car. As to injected or carbs. I have an injected car, but if I had to do it again Id go carbed. That being said your driving profile would be a big decider here. If youre going to be driving on open roads with few cars or restrictions carbs are magnificent. If youre living in an eu speed restricted nanny state, and speeds will be largely limited to a few blasts and youre dealing with some traffic a BBI is great.
Thank you for your insight I am going to test drive two BB’s in early august, so looking forward to that!
hello all! Tomorrow I will have a look at a couple of BBs in the Netherlands I will report back to you on Saturday. would anyone have a picture or two of what documents should be included with a BB? Is it more or less the same as with a BBi? Owners manual, service book and a owners manual for the stereo, that’s about it right?
Its been quiet but I have not been inactive on my BB quest! The cars in the Netherlands was a little disappointing, and perhaps priced a little too high considering their state. One of the dealers hadn’t even bothered to charge the starting battery, so after a short attempt at starting he gave up. So I returned to Norway empty handed. However, a nice 1981 BB in Denmark popped up, matching numbers, full history , original paint etc. Above my budget, but after some negotiation we ended up making a deal! The car is now in the dealers workshop for a small service, belt change and valve clearance checked etc. The engine was complete rebuilt in 2020, brakes overhauled etc. I can’t wait to get this beauty back home !! it is not so easy to find what you are looking for. but with every car you had a look at you will get more and more knowledge and see what is ok and what not. but it is very time consuming. wish you still good luck
Thank you @turbo-joe I closed the deal on the danish car, and will pick it up in a couple of weeks The search was time consuming, but fun!
Looks like pretty standard 512bbi, It looks like an Americpec with the turn light on the fender , vs the other car sans the light.
I believe that it a side marker light? Other conversions made the cut below the beltline, it is easier to correct.
Thank you!Yes, that was a real plus And, another, extremely lucky bonus: The service booklet was lost/stolen sometime during the nineties. BUT! Searching eBay, I found a service booklet for sale... Checking the VIN#..... It was the original service booklet for my car! With the correct dealer stamp ( Crepaldi Automobile - Milno ).
The one on the left is mine and the homologation was by Amerispec. The one on the right is the one potentially for sale and was done by Mardikian in Houston
I'm envious that you're about to take a first dive into the 512BB world! I have a fairly extensive collection of various makes but have to admit few of my cars cause me to stop and appreciate a car as much as my '80 512BB. I absolutely love this car and enjoy any and all time I can spend with it I would be happy to offer any info needed..just reach out.
