575 FHP Shocks

I do it the boring way and put her in neutral coming to a stop, F1 or three pedal. I only select a lower gear when I need power at lower speeds or during cornering, Only wear then is on the clutch throw-out bearing (always open when coming to a stop with F1, even in neutral, but not in three pedal cars) and brakes. No automatic downshifts in my F1 when coming to a stop, or manual ones either.

 

One thing is certain. Your clutch will last longer than mine!
Although I will only have driven mine around 2000km this season, which will end in two weeks. In Denmark we don’t have the weather for long to drive these cars. So we usually store the cars early. So I’m not overly concerned about wearing down the clutch.

 

I do “the boring way” when I don’t want to make people think there’s some hooligan in an Fcar nearby, but I do my fair share of heel/toeing as well. Will be interesting to see what my clutch wear reading is from the SD2 now that the car is a manual. It was in the 90’s when I bought it and according to the shop it was barely worn at conversion. I had been doing a lot of F1 downshifting prior to that.

 

This has changed at some point. The revised P/N 206075 has since been replaced with P/N
243784 (still on diagram 29). It still will not work on earlier cars pre assembly number 90577.

Also with respect, I think there may be a typo on your update summary. The updated F1 cable (from assembly number 90577) is P/N 214569 on diagram 133, not 214369 as listed (ie the “214369/133”).

One of these days when I have some time, I am gonna sit down and see if the updated F1 sensor kit for pre-90577 (aka P/N 244801) is also now better weatherproofed. I am not entirely sold that simply replacing both P/N 243784 + 214569 in a pre-assembly number 90577 is easily feasible (but if 244801 is indeed also now better weatherproofed it becomes a mute issue)

 

Interesting. So apparently your downshifting with the F1 hadn’t worn the clutch much until conversion.

 

I am rather sure this rumor came from F1 cars where the PIS was incorrectly set.
In other words, downshifting should not harm your clutch in any meaningful way assuming the PIS is correctly set.

 

Omar- Also assuming you are in Sport since normal (Sport not engaged) does no shift matching and the clutch and synchronizers do all the matching.

Good catch on the waterproof sensor and cable. Will check and edit. We need the Feb 2006 combined 575M/Superamerica WSM/parts catalog to check, but so far Fabio has the only dongle for that one I am aware of. Maybe Brian or one of the other pros. I have the encrypted manual but does no good without the dongle. Or I need some computer whiz to dedongle the manual.

Incidentally, 90577 would be an engine number, not an assembly number, unless it is for a 612 (F133F/F133H) or 599, which is possible. Highest Superamerica AN I have (nowhere near the highest but gives a range) is 64121.

 

Yes, I never downshift in regular mode, thats a 'double tap to neutral' scenario. Taz I will keep a look out to get a hold of the Superamerica WUSM. I spoke to Fabio about it but it didnt recall where the dongle was so dead end.

On topic, It looks like Scud Ing is not also offering a Sachs suspension light delete module. I would be curious if it also works/can be adapted to the 575 with little effort (no affiliation, just repeat customer as Stefan's stuff tends to be exceptionally robust):

Omar- Would likely work since all use Sachs shocks. Might require lengthening some connectors.

 

None I am aware of; the most cost-effective tends to be finding a used unit or a takeoff unit from someone who is swapped their unit

 

I’m surprised you developed a suspension fault light, I thought originally it was just your shock leaking. Now it sounds like the ECU themselves can fail? That’s definitely a little concerning. I was planning to upgrade my shock ECU to 205619 and could possibly sell you mine (5600 miles on mine) but I’m 99% certain its the porpoise special ECU and would probably detract from your FHP equipped car.

On a side note, I randomly had a suspension light come on that went away with a restart. The electronics on these cars are baffling, as I’m starting to learn. Sometimes my 575 doesn’t feel like opening the trunk or gas cap either.

 

The trunk and gas cap only open w the key in a certain position. I never remember which one it is as annoyingly enough its different on the 456m.

 

Is there any better way to figure out why a suspension fault light comes on rather than swapping parts? Like would a more advanced code reader (like SD2) give better definition?

 

Affirmative, an SD2 could help isolate the problem.

Maranello Classic Parts has shock ECU 205619 in stock for ~$2600. FHP 575Ms came with whatever shock ECU was used in the vanilla 575s at the time. Some FHPs even came with 183960. My late pre-AN 52556 FHP 575 came with 201673, swapped for 201674.

 

I’ve been trying to source an SD2 for year and half with so many dead ends or too $$$ dead ends.
