Took my 2010 HGTE for it's first real spirited drive today. At one point, (new MPS4S tyres warm at 40c) I was pulling onto a straight and gave it a good amount of beans from 1st, when I suddenly got a harsh stop-go-stop-go kind of shaking, with the CST intervention triangle appear on the display. Manettino in Sport mode

In my experience traction control systems interfere in the background, never noticed anything so violent in it's implementation, I'm wondering if that's just how the system is in this car or if something needs fixing. I've certainly pushed harder in the F430 without anything similar. Thoughts?

I noticed the same issue and had my 2007 599 checked out. I keep it maintained fully at the dealer.

    Street driving
I have to put it in race or shut CST off completely to enjoy my car when I want to enjoy performance at speeds of zero to 45 mph situations.

    track conditions
When I’ve had it on the track sport mode does work better because the car is never doing anything from low speed hard acceleration.

I very very rarely have mine in CST off, even on track, the 599 can be very tricky on the limit. I would have your geometry checked out as you have new tyres and double check the tyre pressures. Even in sport there is a window to play in where you can see the CST intervention triangle flash at you but not feel the intervention. The only times I have had harsh intervention was with significant steering angle. You said you were on pulling onto a straight and also mention that you felt this harsh intervention over a gear change from 1st to 2nd. Maybe the combination of some steering angle and relative wheel slip from the diff caused this harsh intervention. If I am on a bumpy track, such as the Nurburgring, the bumps unloading the suspension create havoc with the CST, so much so I have to run a different line. Lastly, 40degC tyre temps are still low (but should be well within 4s working window). To give you an idea, this is the technical bulletin for Cup 2R https://marketing.michelin.co.uk/p/PDF/Technical%20Bulletin_PSC2R.pdf

599 HGTE is an amazing car and have fun (safely) exploring its limits

    All the best!

Seems about right in sport mode, I drive mostly in race and its a bit more controlled as you feel the car sliding more and have time to react to it, in Sport it tends to abruptly stop it more harshly.

    Thank-you for the suggestions

Steering wheel straight, it was 1st gear, maybe around 3-6k when it kicked in. Road was perhaps not as smooth as I would have liked, but still it was surprising when it came on

I think that once you've become accustomed to modern stability and traction control, the intervention of systems from early 599 generation of cars seems very clumsy. I was demonstrating the acceleration to a friend's son, race mode, trying to draw 11 and ended up looking a learner in their first manual, kangarooing up the road. Only CST off allowed appropriate hooliganism.

I always tell people who have a drive of my car that the systems in the 599 are there to minimise the accident, not prevent it.

Is your tire size and pressure front and rear at the spec? I run Michelin 4s with k1 spec front and rear, the rears have a greater load index than the one specified, I run 2.2 bars front, 2.0 in the back. Never seen the cst in sport or race mode unless I seriously make it oversteer on hairpin turns. Pressure will also influence the overall radius, in the workshop manual you can see the recommendations for different brands. I have seen cst intervention on other cars when for example running a new train in the rear and not changing fronts or using different brands, it all has to do with the radius of the wheel.
