Hi all - I'm new to this community having bought my 488 about a month ago.

It came with the Ferrari branded battery tender, but the connection to the port on the rear bumper was partly broken so I bought a JMR connector to connect my CTEK 5.0 battery tender to the rear bumper port.

Unfortunately, neither battery tenders seem to work. The lights on the bumper port connector don't light up to show a connection to the battery (first photo) and the CTEK only shows the green light for a couple of mins then turns off with none of the battery conditioning lights lighting up (second photo).

I'm wondering if it's an issue with the port or the fuse for that port. Would love to hear from others that may have had a similar issue before I take it into to be looked at...

    Thanks

Do you have a multimeter to measure the voltage between the two terminals at the bumper? If the pigtail is good and it reads zero then it’s the magnetic port.

No lights on the tail means no power to the tail.. sometimes you need to wiggle the tail a little to make the connection. There are two metal round pins that are on the car mount, clean them with rubbing alcohol. Then try again. Still no joy then do as @ferrefeh says and check power is getting to the car connector

Thanks both. I had already tried cleaning the connection with rubbing alcohol and adjusting the position of the connector but no joy.

Got a multimeter out and nothing at all.... the Ferrari battery tender that came with the car had a wobbly wire to the connector, so I'm now wondering if that caused the problem.

Any idea if replacing the magnetic charging port is a DIY job or do I need to take it in? I'm ok tinkering with my cars but this is new for me. Reading around it looks like Magcode makes these for Ferrari and they seem to be available.

You can unscrew the connector at the car end, pull it out and check wires. There will also be an inline fuse. that much would be DIY

Great will give that a go. I wasn't sure if I'd just pull or unscrew. Will give that a go when I have some time over the next few days to check the wires and the inline fuse, and will let you know. Thank you!

PS. I would ditch the Ferrari
there is a collar on the connector that just unscrews

Ignore my “PS..” above. I started to write that you should ditch the ferrari tender, but then saw the CTEK picture.. unable now to edit that post. Don’t ditch the Ferrari! :)

haha. I did think that was a bit of a dramatic suggestion for a failed battery tender port

Will look to unscrew it and check it this evening

    Hey sarren77

Nice meeting you today ..although the weather wasn't the best it was a nice time
Let me know how you make out with the fuse
hopefully the pic I showed you helped
I will post the connector so you can see the two screws that hold it it place
As discussed the magnetic make the circuit complete
So testing at the end of the connector with a multimeter would show you if the harness to the connector is good
