Exactly. Painted, it doesn't matter how the weave is in terms of alignment and direction. Exposed, making the threads line up panel to panel and keep a uniform direction is exponentially more difficult than just laying up the fabric any which way and coating it in epoxy.

Mclaren MSO said for every 1 perfect pull it took 10 pulls to match the weave. Very time consuming.
They no longer apply carbon on regular or track versions - had it on 765LT and Senna they are the best in the business or were.

Ultimately, @St.R was correct, after the offers in March and April came and went, they kept telling me just wait and see. I was finally offered a coupe yesterday, and I paid the deposit. I have to credit my salesman and the GM for vouching for me when the spot opened up.

Dealer told me to charge the 296 for a week then take it off for a day…. Not sure the reasoning

Fwiw I left my 296 on the charger for a month, got in and started it up and got the Engine Control Unit fail notification. Then I drove it for 20 mins, shut it off and had lunch, came back and the light was gone. Asked the dealer and they said it just gets little gremlins like that if left on the charger for long periods of time but that it should go away by itself.

Now a 296 Speciale looks pretty silly, it's only a few thousand cheaper than an 849 Testarossa, and a Testarossa is the faster car, even on the racetrack.

The cost of a car is not the same as the cost to own a car. And in this scenario one is a special series and one is not. So even though similar in price, one is going to cost a lot more to own and we know which one that is. Also, I wouldn't be so sure which is faster, but thats splitting hairs at this point. Both cars are beyond 99% of Ferrari customer's skill levels.

I was told I got one of the original 10 coupe allocations though. While we’ve had discussions here about likely waves of allocations over the next year or two, this was not a “new” spot from FNA/SpA.

This is true! Same thing for me. All allocations are out - they become available when someone drops out. Dealers were able to hold on to the couple allocations and decide themselves. Some used them as enticement to purchase a 296 where the customer decided to cancel.

Thanks for clarifying. Also to add a bit of background from my own understanding talking to dealers. the allocations were finalized and deposits submitted to Ferrari last month. So yes I can understand one offs becoming available. Regardless, I'm so happy for you that you were able to get an allocation. Look forward to reading your journey on speccing and taking delivery of the car.

Exactly, I posted here like 100 pages ago they told me April 29 was their initial coupe deadline. FNA chose Aperta buyers.

+1 yeah now the fun is trying to come up with a specification. To the configurator.

Anyone know of a dealer that has an available allocation? I've only owned a 458 and have a bunch of RS/GT Porsches. 296 Speciale is the first Ferrari I'm interested in new. Beverly Hills is telling me they are all sold out.

I'm waiting for you to be right about something! You said they'll build millions of these. He got an original allocation that opened up. I have no problem being wrong when I am, but it hasn't happened yet. Are you buying an 849?

Irony was I was literally sitting with at the dealership with the deposit paperwork watching the GM livestream from the event. We watched the unveiling, saw the IG post reveals, then I got my receipt.

There was a little part of me in the back of my mind thinking... should I have waited? Then I saw it and was like oh I chose correctly. ;)

296 Speciale and the Right of First Regusal (ROFR) in the US

OK, so serious question for this group. I hope for some knowledge responses as FChat has always be so useful and informative. First some background: I’m not a coupe guy, but I am on my sixth spider (SF90). I struggle to fit my 6’5” frame into a coupe for more than an hour drive in many FCars. So….I can get a 296 Speciale coupe if I want it, but dealer can’t/won’t budge on an Aperta as I don’t have enough client credit. I’m also not a car flipper as there are better ways to make money.

I love the look of the 296 Speciale and it’s certainly quick (Fiorano lap time is identical to SF90). Given the ROFR of 12-18 months, does it make sense to buy a coupe? It “might” work with the carbon race seats (more headroom?). I drove a GTS and with the top up it was a bit too tight for me (didn’t get a chance to drive a coupe). I don’t mind the typical depreciation hit on regular production cars if I can drive the heck out of a car, but that might not be the case here.

I know, first world dilemma. Will the Speciale offer a bit more headroom? Should I get the car? What do you all think?

That may be true, but since neither car is limited in number, it makes no difference.

I said that at least as many cars will be built as the Pista Spider, i.e. around 1,500 Apertas and 2,500 coupés. The cars are not that rare or sought after. With the 812 Competizione, no customer thought twice about buying the car. You can't deny that if you're being honest. Of course, many people said yes just out of interest in making money with the 812 Competizione.

Whilst they are not numbered, they are limited. As an observation no "version speciale" have been numbered as far as I am aware (ex spider/aperta) - yet they all trade for more than list today. This is not the case for regular cars.

You amaze me with your lack of knowledge. There are far more pistas than that. Also, there is demand for this car. Why wouldn’t there be. Do you have an 812 comp? What makes you all knowing? Of course people thought that and can make a killing on it. I’m not sure many clients have thought twice about buying this car. No brainer for me.
