Pay drivers have always been part of F1 yes, but this situation is unique in that Aston Martin doesn't need Stroll Jnr to survive. It only needs Stroll Snr to survive. AM would be (far) better off with a proper racing driver pair. In 2023 they had a fantastic car at the start of the season but Stroll (once again) couldn't handle it and (once again) the team developed the car into the direction where he was capable of driving it closer to his teammate...making the car slower.

Stroll Jnr has had a poor reputation within the paddock for quite some time and does anyone think it actually gets better the longer time goes on and good results are an ever rarer thing? A demotivated team is a waste of time and money.

He's been in F1 for quite a while now and he's ****. Move him to WEC maybe he's better suited to those cars.

Without Lance there would not be AMR.

His dad bought the bankrupt India team to provide a seat for his son.

The real culprit is not Lance but a lousy car. If Newey can create a front running car, Lance will get it to the podium. Not regularly, not winning the championship, but his results will improve. WDC material he is not, that's for the #1 driver in the team.

Yes. And now that the experiment (I don't knock them for trying) is a complete and utter failure, cut the losses and let the team prosper with Newey and new blood.

8 years in F1 and all-the-while Lance has had lousy cars while his team-mates score more points than Lance at the end of the season. One year, Alonso podiumed 9 consecutive times only for the development of the car to drop off.

There is no way Lance can fight in qualifying, with the margins or gaps being anywhere from 2/10's to 4/10's, with a front winning car. He still today just doesn't have the chops to eek out every 10th out of a front winning car to out-qualify the top 6 drivers. Then you have the race as his spatial awareness comes into question with a front winning car as the top 6 are jockeying for position on the 1st and 2nd lap.

Lance is good for the money but his on-track performance, even IF he gets a front winning car, is less to be desired for. He's no different than Lawson and Tsunoda with a somewhat front winning car when compared to their team-mate.

Lance doesn't have the desire to race. He's just enjoying the ride and what his dads money has gotten him.....an F1 team to do a Sunday's drive.

Same here. I for one enjoy watching him race. I would miss him if he wasn't in it. Always good for some surprises.

Sure but at what cost to others he has hit etc. As a non rookie with now almost 8 years of F1 time lol??. He is surprising in not improving vs others of his generation.

Maybe he gave a crap for once in his 8 years in F1.

He needs to make up his mind.

I think Lance leaves people dumbfounded because he doesn't react to the critics in the media.

No its his lack of skill overall and little real growth most see. His handling of the press is meaningless to his race craft= thats the issue to most. His status as golden child to his father is now a worn out joke as his continued employment reinforces how not serious the team is about winning. He would have been removed far earlier by others. Newey cant fix his overt lack of skill. The question remaining is who does Aston replace both with. FA should already be gone as well.

"ON NE PEUT CONTENTER TOUT LE MONDE ET SON PÈRE "
(French expression meaning you cannot please everyone and your father at the same time.)

    Lance Stroll doesn't follow other team owners;
Lance Stroll doesn't play by the norms.
Aston Martin Racing is a different sort of team.
What's so difficult to understand ?

I don’t know about others, but what I don’t understand is Newey joining a team that is not serious about winning.

    But maybe there’s a clause…

Look, I get it. Some F1 drivers hate the media. Max is one of those but at least he speaks to them under his terms and how to direct it.

Lance's post race interview at the Italian GP was.....well, less just say it wasn't even an interview with just one words as a reply. I'm sure AMRF1 is pleased from a PR perspective.

Who said they're not serious about winning?

Just because their #2 driver is not WDC material doesn't make them not serious. Red Bull is all about winning and has Yuki as #2 driver. He couldn't be a wingman to Max even if Max needed him.

Just look at Lance’s points performance during those periods when AM has had a competitive car.
Bad example, IMO. How many times has RB swapped that #2 seat during the time that Lance soldiers on? At least they’re trying.

That can't be the motivation. By now Newey has probably more $ than God.

I believe what makes him tick is a new challenge and complete control over the development process and the resources to do so. All of which I think Lance Sr. will/has put in place. The control part was probably what deterred him working for Ferrari.
