And round and round we go.
Are they? I thought they are buying into Kick Sauber who already have a design team, granted they need to up their game! Rumour Tondi is leaving........the alarm bells are ringing but nobody at SF is listening. Putting their money on Serra / Bigois is a mistake imho
The engine is from scratch, and these who are leaving now are engine guys. Anyway, they have to upscale Sauber if they want to transform it into a top team, so they´ll be hiring everywhere.
AUDI has years of experience designing hybrid powerplants for endurance. They only need to apply their know-how and use their technical resources in a F1 application. Red Bull Powertrains and FORD, however ...
Well, maybe it´s not from scratch... but almost. The last time Audi made a racing hybrid engine was a diesel, for a sport prototype and years ago. Even the teams that are making F1 engines now are scared, they asked that the first test session must be behind closed doors because they don´t want to see pictures of smoking engines in the press.
I think there is fear that the new 50/50 hybrid rules (with the ICE reduced power, and the demand on the battery increased) will make the cars slower than they are now, mostly on circuits with long straights. The rulemakers went too far.
No, the cars(2026) will be faster than the current cars. The FIA will step in at certain tracks to "slow the cars down" and put a limit on what the cars true potential power should be thereby limited the true power of the hybrid system.
Yep. They should call 2026 "F1 Restricted" I put a list of tracks that will be restricted in the "F1 2026" thread.
Nicolo Castrignano, trackside engine system engineer, has reportedly left the Scuderia. He had been with the Scuderia over 2 years in Maranello.
Porsche had unit, PU, designed. Its in the family so to speak. I have zero doubt that basis is with Audi!
All the engines will be new as far as i know, the decision to restrict the MGU-H, dropped for 2026, was to favour new engine manufacturers I believe. Top officials jumping ship or being made to walk the plank isn't a good sign.
Porsche and AUDI would be playing a dangerous game if they were sharing powerplants design and data. The FIA rules are more severe than ever on that subject.
Neither were in F1 at the time it was designed. The FIA would have a difficult time proving anything. Oh look the Porsche engineer was transferred to Ingolstadt lol. They have no business telling a private company where anyone works in said private company. No case......
The FIA says that you have to own the intellectual property of the car, but not that you have to be the designer. Most of the Haas wasn't designed by Haas, and all teams subcontract work. The rule was made back in the days of FISA-FOCA war to eliminate private entries. Anyway, the input that Porsche could give is limited. It was a different engine, some years old and probably not in the final stages of development.
Yea I have 0 confidence this "cleaning of the house" at the Scuderia is gonna result in anything positive. There seems to be alot of personnel change, but wouldn't that mean just a new project all over again? I can't wait for Vasseur to say "we got a new team and need time to learn" in 2026 when they don't hit the ground running. Next thing you know the new regs are also a lost cost for Ferrari. I feel already gutted for Leclerc, something like 8 years soon as the lead Ferrari driver and zero cars capable of the WDC provided to him...
Not gutted for Charles. Its up to the team to provide it and he was silly enough to commit long term. He learned not much from FA's time at the team. Its a risk with any of them but more so with chaotic Ferrari. He appears to enjoy his lifestyle with the team and his new Ferrari road cars. Gutted ?? Sure.
You talk about "cleaning up the house", but maybe it´s just that they received an offer from Audi they couldn´t refuse. Remember that as a new entry they have no budget limit. It´s hard to argue with that.
True - Pay is down for team members overall since budget cap and Wheatley was not going to move up further in RedBull. The switching teams move is one way to get rewarded. Cannot blame them. This is a known issue and some folks have left F1 due to the new long schedule grind and lower pay.
Seems the Ferrari enviornment does not promote winners. Look at Costa, goes to Mercedes and pow, they win. Binotto goes to a last place team, and they move up significantly. Miekes takes over RB, and pow, Max wins Italy. Plus a host of others. I knew a chap 20+ yrs ago who did some significant engineering work for Ferrari, they won (Schumacher days). He suggested numerous changes, and pow, idea went no where. Ferrari doing Ferrari things.
Arrivabene exposed Ferrari F1 and said that people at Ferrari are afraid to make decisions. We've seen drivers like Vettel, Sainz and Leclerc either make their own pit stop decisions during the race or like Leclerc question the pit stop strat. I'm like, aren't the pit stop guys watching: 1) Watching the drivers times with the current tires they are on? 2) The pit delta and where that puts the drivers either in traffic or no traffic? I mean all this stuff is on computers!! I mean Hannah Schmitz from RedBull does a damn good job with Max when it comes to pitting. Agreed on Mekies. Instead of insisting that we're going with this setup in qualifying and race for Monza, Mekies didn't listen to the engineers. He listened to Max and they literally took a dremel tool and shaved even more rear wing to cut even more drag out of the car......at it freakened work!!! Not to mention extending his tire deg. Masterclass from Max and Mekies.
Back in the old days, I worked for Italians. They wanted no thought, innovation and motivation. Just do what we say, if its to jump 1 meter, not 0,5 less or more. Didn’t get it.
Was Costa really that good? Working under Rory Byrne his talent or lack of it was masked by Byrne's brilliance, the F2005 was attributed to his design, with Tombazis on board the results were OK but the steady decline started once people like John Iley Chief aero guy left. Binotto wasnt up to the job and Mekkies took over a successful team thats had a dip in fortune, without Verstappen he would be sunk as well. For me some of these guys live off other peoples skills...just my opinion! Tony
