I find it so degrading for Ferrari. Ferrari has lost it. IMO the F80 is a lego car. What Gordon is designing and manufacturing are GREAT cars and like the original F1 time will prove that. For those that have the 288 GTO , F40 , Enzo , F50 AND LaFerrari enjoy and rejoice that you have the best Ferrari could make. The F80 is crap. The S1 GTR is THE CAR. F1, F1 LM, F1 GT. There's three of them. Jokes aside, I hope the S1 LM was the final milking of the F1 from Gordon Murray. It's time for him to move on.
why would anyone move on from a great platform? It’s not like there’s 350 cars built it’s dozens in total. They are considered greatest ever and probably are. If I could afford just one S1 it would be the pinnacle. The fact they have this setup and can produce anything with this fantastic V12 is quite something. Milk away those frothy bags of juicy sweet milk boys for all that can participate!
What's wrong with the design if it works? Tell Porsche to move on from the 911. Chevy took how many years to move on from the front engine Corvette? They probably won't change the design much again going forward. Don't forget Jeep and Land Rover with their designs either. Oh yeah Gwagen, too.
Nothing is wrong with the design. What's wrong, in my opinion, is Gordon Murray continuing to milk a car designed at and for Mclaren, styled by Peter Stevens. The ones you mention are brand identities. The F1 design is not the identity of Gordon Murray Automotive. The T.50 was his "successor" to the F1, now he's made a modern take on the F1 GTR - albeit not designed by him either. Comes down to personal stands at the end of the day. I'd rather have seen the F1 left alone, and for GMA to have forged their own identity, instead of this constant return to the F1

I'm a big fan of the T50 and the T33. This new McLaren F1 redux does nothing for me. I thought Murray would do better than to rest on his laurels and make something so obviously derivative. The exterior is fine, if unremarkable next to the real thing, The interior is Pagani level of hideous. Money talks, as usual.
Anyone under 45 with serious cash levels looks at GMA as a Pattek (really FPJs) I got 6 unsolicited texts from people far far back in car life last week about the S1 saying it’s the greatest thing they ever saw and the desirability was untouched in today’s world. For all GMA product. It is what it is. The S1 is just one customers wishes, wait till you see what they can do it’s gonna shock the world going forward.
Here’s hoping the Icona 4 leans more toward a true driver’s car like a GMA, rather than yet another bloated, over-nannied machine. Ferrari is more than capable of doing both: honoring their racing tech while also giving us a stripped-down, back-to-basics supercar. At this point, nobody cares about headline top speeds, 0–60 times, or even lap records — that electric car from the UK is untouchable around a track for 20% of the price. And top speed wise, when was the last time we cared? Do both. F80 is a node to current tech and pushes the limit of the track to the showroom philosophy and the icona 4 should be a gift to those who love ferrari but are lusting after something just raw, light and simple.
Wrong and wrong. That electric car (I guess you are referring to the McMurty) is NOT road leagal, it is basicall an electric Formula type of car. Of course people care about performance and that is why nearly all manufacturers (GMA being the odd one out) boast about their cars' specs. PS: What defines "raw"? Something unsophisticated? Why would anyone want such a thing?
Who cares if it’s not road legal? Show up at a track with your F80, 918, or whatever flavor of supercar, and it’ll wipe the floor with you. That’s why I said lap times don’t matter anymore. Back when cars were separated by tenths or a second, chasing numbers was fun. But the McMurtry just made all of that irrelevant. Now, performance is almost secondary. The baseline is so insanely high that it’s a given these cars will be blisteringly fast, brake like a race car, and corner harder than 99.9% of owners will ever need. And that’s exactly why Ferrari can (and should) cover both ends of the spectrum: crank out the F80/90/100 with all the numbers, downforce, g-force, and bleeding-edge racing tech — but also give us a “basic” supercar. Something unsophisticated by today’s standards, but pure. Manual gearbox. 1,200 kilos. Mid-engine NA V12 with 600–700 hp. A real driving experience. Have you driven an F40? It was unsophisticated when it came out. 959 was the one sophisticated back then. Yet, most people would pick the f40 keys over the 959. Same f50 vs bug eb110. The bug was the sophisticated one, again most people would go for the f50. But the beauty of the market today is that there are enough people with 8/9/10 figures that Ferrari could easily sell both of these. Porsche does the turbo and the gt3 and that works wonders for them.
Of course it matters! Otherwise get an F1 car... The fact that all manufacturers launch quicker cars with every new model (even Porsche with the GT3 you mentioned that posts better Ring with each new iteration) proves that performance is still paramount. Didn't particularly like it, but what made it special was the fact it was faster than the competition. Hence we go back to my original stipulation that performance matters.
