    I had only received one pair of keys for my 1986 328 GTS, one for the ignition and one for the doors and fuel compartment. Since this was worrying me, I tried to get the keys duplicated, but many of the key service places and lock smiths turned me down, stating that only car keys beyond 1995 could be duplicated.

    But luckily I found the place below, which I am sharing here on this forum just in case you are in the San Francisco Bay Area and have the same problem with key duplication. The owner was extremely friendly, and even made sure all the keys worked smoothly by doing some post-processing. Great service!

    Any competent locksmith can duplicate the keys. The problem is they don't work in the little machines that take no skill to replicate (those found in Home Depot etc.)

    So if you went to a locksmith and he told you that, he's not very good at his job unfortunately.

    Ya, they are just Fiat blanks. And the louver key is a common thing as well.

    Exactly, right? That was my expectation as well. But around here, several places turned me down, even the ones with more than just the little machines. That is why I was so glad with this place; the owner simply walked to a big wall with blanks, picked the right ones, and I had my duplicates a few minutes later! Just sharing it here in case others in the Bay Area were having similar issues.

    I took the reproduction to home depot and they only have a machine now - no human and can not cut my blank in this machine.
    I went to local locksmiths and all say that these are steel reproductions and OEM are much softer so they do not want to hurt their machine cutting these.

    Take it home, align with original, mark with ink, then file down.
