Pretty much, fully dressed less fluids and exhaust, ~550lbs.
The gearbox is heavier than the engine, pushing 300lbs.
To hit anywhere close to 800.. I think you'd have to include fluids, axels and complete exhaust.

Yeah MaT takes literally all of their projects to an absurd level of detail and overall knowledge with their extensive scans and review of stress points, it must be the something in the snow up there. I know they sell their body kit but good gracious what a project. I'm one to talk though, I've been super into the odd-fire V6s in Merak SS lately, building stroked 3.3L warmed over builds for clients lately and man they go great, designed and made some prototype intake (cast) manifolds as well, but what an odd motor.

good luck with your project there and carry on. very glad you're getting traction

Would a bigger 3.0 engine with low boost and a beefier trans make 800whp more reliability? Sure!

Would it cheap heavier and more expensive? Yup!

The car is build, better to focus on getting rhe bugs out and enjoying it, no point in revisiting the past.

Finally got the car back out on track and minus a few small hiccups, it did really well. Excited to make some important changes and revisions, and get back out there ASAP!
Ignore the title. It's just youtube clickbait.

Latest endeavors at GingerMan Raceway in Michigan.
Long story short, my turbo support concept didn't work, which isn't the most surprising. Also, the K-series rattles loose every bolt it can. We lost a turbo thanks to the exhaust housing support bolts backing out.

It's an eye-opener in terms of some things to chase down and future-proof. I'm going to invest in some nordlocks, and a safety wire drill jig. I want to make sure we prevent a lot of these issues in the future.

Importantly, I've got a new turbo manifold on the car as I type this up. Fabbing a new exhaust/wastegate dump, and charge piping. It should yield a more reliable, less crack-prone system as a whole. And it'll be easier to support.

Ooooh boy another have to re engineer everything in 3 day deadline episode. Then next episode will be everything breaking again and one after that will be let's make it awd hybrid while we're at it! Or maybe give it central seating.

Watching show getting me almost as frustrated as Mike must be. Maybe hold all episodes until something positive happens

Roadracing just breaks stuff and when you repair and beef-up one thing, the next thing goes.....its hard and just finishing an event is an huge milestone, at least it was for me.

I know its unsolicited advice, but I would target about 300crankhp during the shake down testing, and probably not go over 500 in competition trim....just looking at the parts that feels about right....but I'm a big scaredy-cat with a broken engine so probably not a valuable thought in my head

I'm glad I'm not as miserable of a person as you. I probably wouldn't be chasing my goals and dreams, and having the time of my life. Instead, I'd be whining about stuff I don't have to watch, letting someone else's challenges get in my head, and I'd slave through life being a miserable c*nt.

Maybe just don't watch my episodes if you don't enjoy seeing the teething process of building a custom, one-off race car.

It's definitely been a challenge! The latest round of hiccups came at Lime Rock Park. The "jump" really did a number on my axles and gearbox. 95Spiderman won't like that episode either.

Right now, I don't think any of my teething pains are coming from the power level. I think what we're asking of the car is pretty tame, and the problems we're facing are centered around finding weak links in my engineering and in others'. Despite the problems, the car is improving slowly and steadily, and I'm enjoying it.

From your wildly angry reply it's pretty obvious you are having horrible time. I started watching your show from day 1 and was big fan. Having invested so much time watching already, I don't want to just give up now. I wish you success but maybe you need take look in mirror before you start cursing at people

So you get to make insulting comments in my direction, and the second I call you miserable for it, I'm the one that needs to look in the mirror?

Maybe read what you posted, and consider how it's going to be taken. It's sarcastic, rude, petty, and just wrong to boot. And then you tell me to stop posting until it meets your wants, based off of some kind of entitlement?

Don't tell me you are invested, you're a fan, and you wish me success immediately after telling me to stop producing videos that show the real, genuine, focused effort I am putting into a project you supposedly care about.

I am happy to talk shop and poke fun at the hardships this car has brought me. It's been a rough ride. But I'm a real person. Treat me with respect if you want it in return.

You're there not me so I'm in no way questioning it. My only thought was to try to get more track hours to test everything else. I haven't really raced in years, but I do product development which means I break a lot of stuff in the lab (instead of the track) and I've come to like starting low and turning it up until failure as my go-to strategy when I have a prototype to evaluate to get as much data as possible including a good idea of where the failure point is exactly. That is all I was thinking about.

No idea if this is in anyway related but a big issue with jumps exploding trans/axles often comes from rpm changes that the jump allows. Years ago when I was in school the Prof, who was the advisor for the SEA Baja team, assigned an analyses of the differential that failed 3 time in the race. So we knew the answer going into the assignment but the basic math said it was fine...but it broke 3 times and the team and the Prof had no idea why. The solution I proposed was that the drive had the throttle pinned coming up to the jump which allowed the wheels to accelerate once they left the ground. When the buggy landed the wheels and engine were at a higher speed and as soon as the grip was available the engine was decelerated at a rate equal to the limit of traction and that means its not the engine's hp that is loading the axles and trans, its the stored energy of the rotating mass. The flywheel on that thing was heavy and the tires quite large, and on landing the diff was seeing at least 4X what it was rated to handle and reacted as expected by exploding. You're case is very different obviously....but 1 tire hitting first puts everything through 1 axle, and rpm changes add inertial/stored energy to dissipate.....all the "what's different here" stuff.

I was flipping through youtube an watched a thing on F1 gearboxes. What really caught my eye was the pitch was gears was quite large but the then the gears were narrow making quite odd looking teeth. Nothing like anything I've ever seen in a road car and clearly done for a reason.

Racing is hard.....which is what makes a good day when it comes so satisfying. Glad to hear you're making progress!

And I also hope your tirade doesn't get you a ban for personal attack bc I'm sure fchat gives your channel clicks. But if you do get banned it's your doing not mine

I think that's exactly why we had our failures. I was trying to judge how much I needed to lift off throttle and when I could get back on, and there was a bit of misjudgment. Couple that with what may have been a mis-timed shift and, well, here we are. Ooops :D

You didn't make any valid criticism. You don't like the "3 day rush to get stuff done" huh? Neither do I. But it's the hand I am dealt and I am willing to thrash to try and get the car ready. If you think it's for entertainment value you're mistaken. Your silly comments about hybrid AWD or center seating are silly too, because nothing on the car has fundamentally changed since I started racing it, and every change that has been made has been in pursuit of reliability.
Honestly, such criticisms just look childish and it makes it clear you aren't the "fan" you claim to be.
Lastly, telling me to wait to post a video until my problems are solved is equally ridiculous. Just don't watch: my content isn't for you. My last thumbnail and title made it abundantly clear we faced problems, yet you clicked on it, and then got upset when you were served exactly what you ordered.

If I get banned for calling you miserable over your attitude and approach to communicating with me, so be it. That'd be wildly hyprocritical, but I won't lose sleep over the three-thousandths of a single percent of traffic this website has brought me for my content. This forum's viewership fits within a margin of error, for a margin of error, for a margin of error for me. And yes, I pulled up my analytics to confirm that.

I complain about your show the same way I complain when my sports teams make a move I don't like. Doesn't mean I'm not a fan. I complain because I'm a fan.

The AWD hybrid comment was a satirical reference to when car was broken and you decided to add air shift to it. Another variable that was unnecessary when car having lots other troubles

After watching from day 1, i want to see it work!

You do realize you complaining to your TV over a sports team is very different to complaining directly to me on a forum, right? That's why I said I am a real person. I am just like you. I am a real human being with real emotions. I'm not just a figure on a screen. You're communicating directly to me, human to human, and this is how you treat people you don't know?

The air shift system was added to preserve the gearbox. It may seem unnecessary, but to me, it was the opposite: an attempt to reduce the ability for human error to affect the transmission of the car. And so far, that's worked, considering the first failure I've had is because I shifted at the wrong time with my car in the air.

Bans are usually only a few days....I've had several then I discovered the "ignore" button, its wonderful

Anything you can do in the ECU? When I'm testing I set the rev limiter low and raise it as I get more comfortable with everything but it will protect you with a missed shift. Then the bounce and rev shock....generally the traction control function can/will prevent the rear wheels from exceeding the speed of the fronts by whatever slip % you set....dragging is like 6-8% usually(?) for road racing the slip % can be pretty low I think before its costing time....a couple % maybe which might help smooth things out? just guessing, I've never tried using it for that purpose.

I have a buddy that endurance races, there even stock output engines generally don't live too long. Any time I try to talk him into more hp he smiles and says "that's a great idea"...then goes on about his business. Everything needs to be pretty robust to live. Hot lap racing obviously does not need the same level of durability for any given weekend, but its still not 10-15sec at a time on a glass smooth drag strip either. Heat and bumps just seem to break stuff :(.

...racing is brutal. The only way to tune the chassis (and driver) is to do laps....that's why I keep asking about backing off the boost and revs more than you probably want to, I just keep thinking that is the quickest path to a great weekend.

Traction control (and ABS) are on the to-do list and would definitely make a big difference in that regard. Ultimately I also know I just need to be more gentle on the car in situations where it's going to get un-weighted. I'm heading to Laguna Seca at the end of the month, and I am curious to see how the corkscrew will treat the car and how I'll need to take the initial downhill transition. Loading the car up as the track curves to the right and levels out will be interesting too.

Don't pull a muscle stretching that hard my guy. I'm sure you're totally having a one-on-one with Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Josh Allen when they flub a play, yeah? You call them up and give them a hard time? **** on them to their face? Get out of here dude lmao

    Good luck next outing.

I've never tried to setup abs so no thoughts, traction control though is not so bad. Remind me, what are you running an ECU?

I'm recalling you're using something besides the ECU for data logging? Have you got the engine functions wheels speeds, Gs, tract position and such to help you hunt the demons?
