I like having a wiper plus it might keep the cops away. I could replace it with a boxer single pivot assy but I wouldn't be saving much. I will remove the passenger pivot though. I considered door pulls a while back, even considered no door panels but I didn't like that look. Its amazing how much the door panels and arm rests stiffened up the doors and made the car sound much better in the cabin. I also like the wrap around dash look that flows into the arm rests so that detail dictated no door pulls. I also like the stock headliner so I'm sacrificing some weight loss for aesthetics to a certain extent. I'll get it as close as I can without crossing that line into that full race car interior look and feel so I can enjoy long drives. The seats are really comfortable which I wasn't expecting.

Roughly 13lbs can be shed with a crank and rod swap. I'll be weighing other parts at the time because I'll be making several changes to the engine.

Excellent. Thank you Paul. That’s a good reference.

I think most just don’t know that even removing 150lbs makes a noticeable difference with one of these, let alone the difference from 400-500lbs.

The 308 chassis is otherwise almost identical to a Dino chassis, and those started getting a bit fat at the end of their production as well. Dino’s were pretty darn light in the early days

I thought I would post the receipt from the weigh station. When I weighed the car the scale said 1220kg but at that time I had a bankers box with a laptop, a bunch of files, my lunch bag and water. And in the rear trunk I had 4 new brake rotors for my daughters Focus and front and rear pads. What those things weighed are what my scribble is after I put them on the scale at home.

Inspiring. I reached out twice to the company that provided you with your engine cover, and so far, crickets. Was there anything in particular you did to get them to respond to you?

That would result in weight gain unless you can find something that I can't.

The smallest carbon ceramic systems are quite a bit heavier (and much more moment of inertia due to large diameter) than a steel system with aluminum hats sized properly to stop a car this light.

950kg is the minimum weight for a group 4 308 which is 2094lbs.

Weighed some a/c lines today from a 308, 7lbs. Mine are still in the car as dead weight which I'm now more interested in removing, that would get me to 2599 lbs :)

Meant to post this pic a while ago. Stock 1990 Testarossa I weighed. My modded 308 is 1000lbs lighter than a Testarossa. Still not Testarossa power but the power to weight is fast approaching it.

Then we have a "compact car", a 2019 golf beside it.

I want (need) to change my final drive ratio. The gears are too short and as power increases I'll end up not using 1st gear. If I can avoid having custom drop gears made to accomplish this I would rather just buy OEM. Does anyone know if Ferrari changed the drop gears as the cars got newer, possibly 328's use a gearset that would give my car longer legs?

Unfortunately no. The late 328 drop gear set though slightly different still holds the same overall ratio. But it does have improved bearing support, requires the bellhousing of course.
Only upgrade has been with the aftermarket ones that were straight cut gears.
The gearbox internals are shared with zf 5ds-25 so maybe it's possible to change 1st gear.

There are 2 or 3 differential ratios aren't there in the different markets?

I have it on good authority it is difficult but possible to swap the gears top to bottom which is about a 24% ratio change.

That would be tricky as the splines are different... Doable I suppose if you cut weld the shafts... Seems like fussy work though.

    Hello Smg2,
Yes, but maybe we can start earlier,, get a forging and CNC ,,,
    grind it.
    ,
    Or,,
maybe, our Ferrari friend could get an Inconel set machined . ??
    :)

and maybe need to relocate the idler

Difficult, but I suspect it could be done ;)

but where did all the wonderful numbers you posted come from? what bits are you playing with?
