@day355 I've been hearing that paint prices have risen so much because of Zanasi, and that Ferrari are working to have all painting be done in-house, which in turn would bring the paint prices to a more reasonable level. Is there any truth to this?
@Kmaaq, I have zero information. But if they're able to lower costs, my guess is they will pocket the difference rather than pass it on to us. Unless they're seeing a dip in demand for the high cost paints. And I wouldn't have guessed that to be the case. Curious to hear if anyone knows the goings-on though.
We ordered a Piloti Car. This means we passed up on the spider in favour of the Piloti coupe. We have a Pista spider and a coupe 458 Speciale so it seemed fitting. There aren’t any pics I can find on the internet of other colours (I saw the red car at Le Mans) so I thought I would post some renderings of two of the other colours, the two we chose from. Notice the white wheel option rendered on the blue car. I think it looks good, although we chose the silver car. What's the appeal of the piloti? Why is it any more desirable than the coupe? I understand the aperta's desirability and rarity, but why choose the piloti over the aperta? Seems like a coupe with a special livery.
I like the blue/gold combination. Reminds me of the Azzurri. 2006 Del Piero still in my closet somewhere, haha Image Unavailable, Please Login
It is indeed a coupe with a special livery, but it is (probably) more limited than the aperta. Besides, an aperta as a so-called track oriented version is an oxymoron.
Almost certainly more limited than the Aperta. For Pista, there were something like 1100 Spiders and 1-200 Pilotis (numbers seem to vary, official quote was 40 but there was a registry floating around with ~100 cars, even if it's off by a factor of 1.5 or 2 that's still around a couple of hundred cars). I don't really understand the Piloti, but it seems like something if you're offered, you should probably take. I didn't love the livery on top of a red base when I saw it, but it looks good in silver.
