    The perfect English gentleman racer.
Moss was 4 times runner-up in the championship and 3 times 3rd, but never champion.
He spent half of his career racing for private teams, and in this light, his 16 GP wins were extraordinary.
His win at the Mille Miglia became the stuff of legend, just like the humiliation he inflicted on the Ferrari team at Monaco and the Nurburgring in 1961 on a year old private Lotus giving away 50hp on the Italian cars.

This photo could have been taken in 1960 or 61 at the RAC Tourist Trophy at Goodwood.
Stirling Moss won both years, driving a private Ferrari 250 GT SWB entered by Rob Walker.
Interestingly, Moss said that he was listening to the commentary on the car radio during the race !
Moss won the Tourist Trophy 7 times, driving for Jaguar, Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari.

I heard that anecdote about listening to the radio while racing, too.

The picture above in my previous post was taken at the 1960 RAC Tourist Trophy at Goodwood. The car had white roundels with the number “7” and the plate “59305 MO” for that race. One year later, the car carried blue roundels – still with number “7” – but a different number plate.

Thanks for the details. The 1961 car was probably the same one Stirling Moss and Graham Hill drove at Le Mans.
Rob Walker car used a NART entry to participate, but the car was retired following a water leak when it was 12th.
