New owner of 16099 and the car came without keys to the doors. I assume these cars came with 2 separate keys (since my ignition key doesn't work in the doors). Do we know of someone who can make keys for the existing door locks? Also, I need some floor mats, so any suggestions on something period correct and a source would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The door key is much smaller than the ignition key; typically with a diamond-shaped "head".

I would not give-up on finding the keys for the doors. If you search for that SN, you will be able to see a good portion of the chain-of-ownership over the last few years. At the time of the most recent BaT listing of the car, the door keys should have been with it; I know, because I was in frequent contact with the "late owner" mentioned in the listing, and I would have heard about it if the keys had not been with the car at that time...

Door lock keys are easy to replicate, but usually require removal of at least one door lock.

IMO, the best & only choice for proper, period correct floor mats is to simply acquire correct, matching materials, i.e. carper, binding, heel pads, snaps, and make a second pair to replace the existing ones once they’re worn out, which in most cases will likely takes years or decades.
Any upholstery/trim shop or professional worth their scissors & sewing machine should be able to make them using the existing pair as a pattern.

Of course another approach is to simply order some hideous/tacky looking aftermarket throw rugs from J.C. Whitney, Keith Collins, Rock Auto, Rugs-R-Us, etc.

Regarding the floor-mat question, when I got my car, I poked around quite a bit, and concluded that floor mats were not something that there was much info on.

In the end, I went with having some "Coco" mats made; at least that sort of mat was commonly available in-period (though mostly popular with cheaper cars), and thus, maybe might have been fitted by an original owner.

Note that unlike the in-period mats, these have a rubber backing with anti-slip nibs on it, and (at least to me) there is a concern about possibly damaging, the PITA to source/replace heel pads on the carpets. As a consequence, I took a razor-scraper and cut the nibs off in the areas where the heel pads are, and this seems to have preserved the heel pads.

Oh, and while I am uploading pictures, here is what the heads of the keys look like; door is on the right...

Unlike the ignition key, the door key is symmetrical about its central line, so you can insert it "flipped around" and it still works fine...
And yes, for the purists, those keys are modern blanks, as I keep the originals safely tucked away so that they don't get worn unnecessarily... :)

Thanks for the responses. I think we have reached the point where we aren't comfortable bugging the widow about the keys anymore, so I will look to find some blanks and someone who can replicate them. I love the idea of JC Whitney floormats - I haven't ordered anything from them since 1978, and I was disappointed with their stuff even as an ignorant 18 year old!

The heal pad in the middle photo under the CoCo mat looks correct. This is the type you should be looking for.

    Hi Carter and Grant,

Carter: Bummer about the keys. I find it hard to believe that the owner-in-question did not keep both keys together, but I suppose anything is possible...
While JCW might have sold Coco mats, there we nice ones available in-period for a lot of German cars (Mercedes, Porsche, etc), so they were not necessarily a "cheap" mat type. The currently-available custom mats are certainly not cheap... :) (some quick Google searches will bring-up the only source that I am aware of for custom one)

You might also consider just buying a new pair of locks-with-keys; it is not as if the keys need to match anything else on the car...

Grant: Yeah, I don't even recall where I got mine, but it took a while to obtain those heel pads. The rubber ones that one often sees look obviously wrong to me..

    Cheers,
    Alex

I know my views are contrarian & in minority, but I've always considered placing any aftermarket mats (carpet or rubber) on top of originals, especially in rarely driven/used vintage cars (with often beautiful & high quality carpets with heel pads, etc), like those tacky plastic, sewn to fit seat covers people have on their (usually vintage American) car seats or having similar plastic covers on high-end "formal"(?) furniture in their homes...
... or aftermarket rim covers on steering wheels ...
... or having a nice Saville Row suit made, but always wearing some frock or trench coat over it, even indoors, to prevent ...
    ... what ?

OTOH, to each his/her own as they say and as we all know this ^^ fascination to put covers over everything is still going strong today, but helps guys like MacNeil to take advantage of it & expand his vintage car collection. ;)

P.S. @z8virginia If all else fails in your search for the right keys and you wish to remove one of your locks & send it to me, I have blanks & can re-key it.
