thats a big issue…. and it’s not correct to compare a cheaply order spec with an outrageous spec

If you can keep it, I honestly think it's the best driving mid engine Ferrari, maybe ever.

The amount of options and the pricing on these options expanded and the 296 came out at a time when many more people thought they could or should play the game. It's a bunch of things that compound on each other. None of which changes how the car drives.

I'm going to be the contrarian here, and I'm sure will get booed by many, so no need to flog me publicly... I've been at this for a few decades, and perhaps Ferrari is the one exception (I'm still shopping for my GTB/GTS); however, I have repeatedly seen how the market doesn't care about the special options such as a $30,000 CF exterior option, and so on. The speciality options appeal to the original owner who made it his own (as I have done with every sports/super/luxury vehicle I've owned). The used market, with obviously an occasional exception, "like" the blue stitching, the exterior CF package, and so on, but they don't seem willing to pay for it; it's why I've seen a few GTB's with $480+ stickers and an ask for the same $330 as cars with MSRP's of $380. Maybe other F models don't behave like this, but there sure are a lot of other supercar brands that do. And I'm not trying to start an argument with anyone.

Here is the thing with the 296, except for the AF pack nothing else changes the performance of the car. Every other box that is checked, except maybe the sports seats, are all about personal taste and very subjective. The cars are the same performance wise. A big spec vs a low spec is basically the same.

Great car. Why aren’t you driving it? What are you replacing it with? I don’t understand- as it is so, so underrated.

Why aren’t you listing it at a Ferrari dealer? I am in the market one and would only buy from them.

Curious, should a 296 with a replacement transmission be avoided from a resale standpoint? I found one I like that’s local, but the transmission was replaced by the Ferrari dealer at around 1000 miles.

Over the longer term (next couple years) that matters, I think.

Atlanta dealer charges 7%. I am losing this 7% over the steep loss on my GTB. I am biting the bullet in the name of joy the car brought me. Can’t wait for my new GTS reaching dealer finally next week.

I just bought a GTS in BAT. Why not try that. $600K MSRP is off the charts.

Hard pass as well. Will be harder to resell, harder to trade, and may be more problematic—all translate to higher cost.

I second that—I’m only looking at dealer cars as while there might not be risk in buying from a non-dealer, there’s very limited-to-zero risk buying from a dealer, and you have a substantial throat (Ferrari corporate) to grab if there’s a problem. After selling a couple high-end cars myself, I’ve concluded the hassle factor isn’t worth the gain. I’ve also noticed that one Ferrari dealer can be 20% different from another for the same trade and nearly identical GTB purchase. Lastly, I’ve also experienced the squeeze when I’ve ordered something new, waited a year, then go to trade—selling dealer knows they have you over a barrel. Some take advantage of that, others, less so.

Since I’m sure I’ve bothered a few people here, I’ll go out on another limb… I’ve been researching cars for a while now. I know it’s a matter of preference, but I’ve come to conclude that the AF pack and the racing seats are not desirable. I’ve heard from one owner that it was such a drawback that they are considering selling the car, as the AF pack makes it too hard of a ride and the seats aren’t comfortable. I know; it’s all preference and I’ve heard people here say the seats are comfortable or even “I’d never have a car without them,” but I’ve also heard friends saying “they’re fine, but I’d probably not recommend them.” How I come down on it is the reality is that maybe one out of 50 owners ever track their car, and they probably only do it a couple times a year. So everyone is driving on normal roads, where the race seats aren’t comfortable and the AF pack isn’t really providing value. Don’t get me wrong, I think the seats are damn cool looking, especially Daytona-style, and who doesn’t want to say they have the race pack! Reality is I think buyers will increasingly discount those options (queue the angry screams)! I know I have ruled out all cars with AF and race seats, no matter how cool looking and the discount. Just one “unsolicited” opinion.

Well I agree on AF pack. The bumpy road button is too good not to have. FWIW my MSRP is $464 and I had it valued on trade since I’m considering a GTS at $130k discount. I probably will keep the car. The worst part of the depreciation is over. A GTS does tempt me, however, because of all that sky and the minimal degradation in performance.
