    I have a 2.7 GTB and am having the clutch replaced. The plan was to have the shop remove the flywheel and to have the flywheel resurfaced.

    I just received this message from them;

    “I need to talk with the tech some more on this and get his thoughts, but the last 355 clutch we replaced we did not do anything with the flywheel. The flywheel on yours is more of an assembly that is in a case with springs and bolted in. To resurface, it would have to be disassembled which we don't have the tools to take apart. The flywheel I saw on Ricambi is just the flywheel itself and it would have to be assembled into the case, which again - we don't have the special tools for. Ferrari sells it as an assembly which is damn near as much as the clutch job itself.”

    Any thoughts? I recall several DIYers taking their flywheel out without specialty tooling. Thanks in advance!

    My thoughts are, bring it somewhere else.

    Doesn't it just press out of the pumpkin bearing like a 348?

    You'll need the special ring nut tool to get that outside nut off, but then it just presses out.

    I agree, take it somewhere else.

    Or at the very least, collect the pumpkin and its pieces, bring it or ship it to a different knowledgeable mechanic on Ferrari 355.

    Thanks for the feedback. For added context, the shop is a very well regarded Indy shop in the area (work more on German cars but have a tech that services their Italian side), and have completed small jobs on my 355 prior with total professionalism.

    I previously had my car at a different shop, the "most" well regarded Ferrari Indy shop in the city, for an engine out service and other bits, and it took 10 months and communication nightmares along the way. The work was top notch, but the communication, professionalism and overall experience were a nightmare, which led me to my current Indy.

    When I reached out to the current shop about the clutch job they had let me know they've swapped several clutches in other 355's. They said they've used the same Ricambi clutch kit I was looking at as well, so I felt comfortable moving forward as it is not a terribly complicated job. They did not mention lack of experience of the flywheel. I'm waiting for them to call me today to discuss in more detail

    as people have said; they dont know what they are doing.

    thus is not a complex job and easily within the realms of any competent diyer. there are numerous threads and videos of how to do this; as above.

    unless it is broken; Id get them to put it back together, say thank you very much and take to the other shop and let them have it for the winter.

    at the end of the day this is a 1 maybe 2 day job total!

    Issue has been resolved. The flywheel portion of the job is being outsourced appropriately. Thanks for chiming in

    Hope that's the end of the story but I can see some finger pointing on the horizon if things don't work out. Today's pros don't fix things. They replace parts. Fixing things takes the next level of understanding that it does not sound like they possess.
