    Hello everyone,

    I’m new to the Boxer/TR/M board and recently purchased a European-spec 512M.
Would anyone happen to know if the ECU on this car is an OBD-II version?
Also, is it possible to reprogram it for better performance?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Agree, all are OBD1 even the listed 1996 model year cars (it has to do with a quirk of how European model years are assigned in certain markets)

There used to be a chip available for the car but I don't know if any are currently offered.

Oh! I thought the Euro version was OBD II.

If OBD I, is it possible to upgrade it for better performance?

Yea the Koenig Specials chip was what I had originally planned to get for my car but (1) not sure its still available and (2) I have found the car really responds differently to different exhaust options given the varying level of backpressure (my assumption as I can definitely feel a loss of torque with all else being equal when trying/driving with different mufflers and controlling everything else)

Note in my opinion the best 'first pass' upgrade for the 512TR is:
    1) Remove pre-cats (if your car came with them)
    2) Muffler/silencer of your choice
    3) +/- hyperflow cat vs OEM cat vs test pipe
    4) Euro ECU coding (remove Pin 39 from memory to prevent the startup rich setting) < yes I realize you already have this by default

With that, get a feel how you like it and then optimize with a tune/chip.

Personally, once I settle on an exhaust I will likely have a custom chip/map made rather than a 'one size fits all' as even that link highlights, it can vary. I have tried Tubi (Race), Capristo Stage 3, OEM.
