Hi so I’ve had my pista for a month now and noticed that it’s making a high pitched squealing or noise on light cruising and acceleration. It sounds very similar in tone and volume to ccm brake squeal but I’m not pressing the brakes. I hear it from the front end somewhere and it’s super annoying. Any thoughts on what this could be? Normal?

@Kalie….you should ensure e-brake is not sticking. Does the car slow down like brakes are dragging. When I had my lithium battery issue I had to loosen both eBrake bolts on each side to move the car. Begin by checking the state of your battery and go from there.

it definitely doesn’t feel like dragging

it’s this metallic bird chirping jingling sound that Also increases in frequency as speed builds

My 488 GTB does this and it sounds like it’s from the left front wheel. It’s more noticeable at lower speeds with the window down. Never been able to figure it out, but doesn’t seem to be hurting anything.

Something that increases as speed builds always makes me think about the tyres rotating faster. Could it be something is rubbing against the ccs on one side? Sounds annoying :(

My car does this too. Are you driving in race mode? If you are I believe it may have something to do with the computer systems that modulate power/braking. I'm not sure what it's called. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in.

  8. Pebble stuck in rotors and/or calipers.

I thought that too and hosed off all the wheels and calipers but as soon as the car warmed up noise came back

I've had this with alot of cars. Have someone walk next to your car while driving so you can figure out which corner it's coming from. Then work from there. Put on jack stands and take the wheel off and turn the rotor and listen where the noise is coming from. Could be dirt, rock or sticking caliper.

Did you find a cause for the chirp? Just bought a 2017 GTB and the chirp is driving me crazy! Takes away from enjoyment of the car. I have to turn up the stereo which then takes away from the enjoyment of listening to the engine. I tried rinsing off the pads and calipers with hose and nozzle (not a pressure sprayer). No use. I've done several HARD brakes from 70 mph down to 5mph and still nothing. Have a service coming up in a couple of weeks and can ask them. Seems like this is quite common (Matt from CarWow complains about this same chirp in his review of the GTB years back ha). TIA

Sometimes there is something (e.g. a small stone) between the disc and the plate (so-called protection shield) that's on the interior side.

Appreciate the feedback. I'm taking my car in for an oil service in a couple of weeks. I'll as the dealer to look at that. I've scoured this forum and I've seen all sorts of theories but nothing definitive. Seems like it affects many GTB's and Pistas.

    Top theories are:
    1) stones
    2) poor bedding
    3) bushings/bearings
    4) and even now this thread that I found:
    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/brake-noise-was-not-the-brakes.648040/

Problem is few follow up with their fixes and if they worked and how long they lasted. Don't want to go through the rabbit hole at $500/hr at the dealer to try and figure it out. Hoping they have a definitive answer. Just can't imagine Ferrari would let a car of this caliber leave the factory with a chirp.

    Thanks again.

Did you figure out what it was? I have the same noise on my F8, it happens only during low speed acceleration. Dealer is saying it could be aftermarket exhaust flaps (I have a Novitec exhaust).

I’ve heard mine do the same thing - bone stock and not consistent all the time. Probably just one of those “things” that the car does that for some reason every owner can hear but no dealer ever can.

Porsche has stuff like this too - always good for generating multipage threads about “ticking” and conspiracy theory’s o_O
