I'd always wanted to go to coast to coast because it seemed an unusual thing in this kind of car to do and I like endurance sports. I put off an attempt until now because I never had a co-driver (seriously who else but father/son?!) and it's difficult to do without having to stop for rest in a remote place. This last week of August my dad turned 70 and he had never seen the car. So he flew out, we left California and drove to Virginia. We stayed overnight in Utah at his childhood friend's place; on a farm in Nebraska (gravel road approach not in the advertisement--thankful for the lift); and in a converted Church in rural Illinois.

The drives in ski country Utah; an early morning blast through some farms in backroad Illinois; West Virginia (yes--Japan makes a fair fraction of a tourist economy from moutainonus landscapes like the ones of our unloved states) and southwest Virginia were all lovely.

My dad had Porsches as a young man but not during my lifetime--so this was a great full-circle experience. He was astonished at the car's concept; that you can pull from 41 mph to overtaking speed without a downshift or any stress on the engine, and above all that the car seemed so solid...

We were able to confirm scientifically on this trip that the fastest production car in the world is the Jeep Compass. Give them a wide berth and be thankful that they are a little less common on the coasts.

Awesome trip with your dad. Thanks for sharing. It's on my list to do something similar with our FF or another Fcar if that happens, but taking care of mom for now. I did a couple road trips around the west in my previous 2017 NSX back in 2018 and 2019. It's a blast to get out and go.

And going back and forth across the county in our S Class is pretty nice too. But it's not an FF. I love road trips.

Here's proof that the FF is a full-fledged station wagon.
Complete exhaust system for an Infiniti QX70? No problem.
Simply fold down the back seats. ;)
