I have this airbox set that was restored...the inside lip used to have a sponge sealant for when the cover sits on the main body and I'm thinking I should use a rubber/silicone strip/bead all around to seal it...

Any recommendations for a product? Maybe some high temp, 1/2" wide rubber/silicone gasket that has one side with adhesive? Am I getting too specific? :)

Thoughts and opinions very much welcome!

mcmaster-carr is probably a good source to find something that will work

I am thinking you will need to cut the shape you want from a foam sheet.

    try searching for:

closed cell heat resistant foam sheet

    or something like that.

Are you thinking more of making like a gasket material? I think that would be very difficult to cut without a pattern given that this airbox cover is maybe 2 ft long by 4" wide...I was thinking of just going around the inner perimeter with a one-sticky sided high temp rubber so it seals together when screwed back on...

Did you end up using the gasket material from McMaster-Carr from the link in Post #4?

No, I found a $8 Amazon neoprene (high temp apparently?) rubber that is 0.5" wide and only 1/16" thick...will report back once these are back on...

Whatever you use have a heat gun for the short ends where the rubber will try to lift due to the angle...heat it up along with the metal cover (the rubber has adhesive on the back side) and then press it down when hot and it will stick nicely and stay that way.
