Ignition Switch - Weird Issue

We have a Mondial 8 (US) and have been trying to resolve power issues coming from a hacked up ignition wiring from when we bought the car. We finally bought a F355 switch (exotic auto recycle) to replace the electrical backing on the original switch (per old FChat threads on iginition switch issues). Right before switching out the old switch, we started getting a weird thing where you can turn the key to off (I'd call that position 0) and even take the key out and the electrical will not turn off. The engine turns off but the electrical remains on as if the key is in position 2. We put the new F355 electrical portion in (married to the mondial mechanical portion as the F355 mechanical doesn't really fit the steering wheel lock) and the issue remains. We checked all the wiring diagram information and we seem to have it all wired properly. We can only turn the electrical off by pulling apart the white connector pieces that live under the dash. You would think there is some circuit that is wrongly completed but...

Weird thing #1 - when you plug the connectors back in, this issue does not occur. It seems that the switch relay in the panel remains clicked off until you put the key back in and turn it to position 2. Once you do that, the relay is stuck on and the power remains on even with key out.

Weird thing #2 - the wiring from the ignition switch has a blue wire which splits to be fit into 2 of the connector ports, one connects to a port with a light blue wire and the other to a port with two yellow wires and a yellow/black wire. This appears all correct per the wiring diagrams. BUT - if you pull out the blue wire from the switch that runs to the yellow wire port, this issue stops happening. The electrical will come on when key is in position 2 and when you turn the key to Position 0 it turns off. But at least when I tried tonight, the car won't actually start (starter turns over but won't catch).

Weird thing #3 - we are getting really high idle speeds after the orange cold start light turns off. Usually up to 2k rpm but occassionally 3k+ rpm and then I have to turn if off, pull the connectors and reset the electric fully off, then plug it all back in and the idle speed returns to 1,500 when you turn the car back on. This has to be electrical or digiplex related but not sure if it's related to this issue.

Thoughts either on what's wrong or what I should test next?

 

here are some pictures, not sure what you're looking for exactly so let me know if you want other pics. The board was rebuilt by GT car parts earlier this year and they put new relays on for the most part. I took a closer picture of the relay that is marked as "switch by key" in the diagram.

 

Shout out to Ross at GT Car Parts! I emailed him as they rebuilt the board and he noticed that two of the relays were switched in position. Switched them back and the new ignition switch now works properly! Still haven't figured out why I'm getting high idle but I think it's a vacuum issue... anyway, this problem solved.

 

Public Service Announcement... All the vacuum hoses looked fine but we replaced them all anyway on Saturday and a long-time idle issue went totally away. All three "weird" issues now resolved, plus Ross helped out to track down why the 'key ding' and some other small eletrical wasn't working (blown fuses). Almost back to a fully functioning Mondial 8.
