What a stretch. The whole car is a stretch.

Not necessarily homage to the actual air vent, but most likely to the black air deflectors connecting the side strakes in 84' Testarossa. Vertical stripes in the 849 function as air deflectors too.

When we look at the 849 in profile, it's all too clear that the vertical black element is incomprehensible and looks more like a pallet strap holding the car body together to prevent it from detaching. It's incredible how with this strange, dark, and completely unrelated element, Flavio Manzoni managed to completely destroy the design's harmony, and, as a Italian journalist has already pointed out, it can only have been because he simply couldn't accept absolute harmony. What Rosario Scelsi later characterized as Manzoni's un-Michelangelisque "artistic" digressions, IMO, results from the man's obsession with the pursuit of originality through a futuristic language that has gone from bad to worse.

Tough for sure. But it may very well become loveable.

To appreciate it, one needs to get closer to the car to understand...
    1) The Testarossa reference
    2) The dual layer body design (not only dual tone)
    3) The enhancement of minimalistic design

The car has huge cooling requirements, yet it tries to achieve something similar with its body than the much praised 458. However, the bathtub form leading to side vents (originates from the Ferrari F1-75 car) is a challenging design element in the 849 where the valley contains sharp edged wall. The black belt design may actually improve how the intake area looks when standing next to the car.

It didn't look out of place in the flesh, it's quite a nice design element, I bet all of the commenters who hate it are looking at photos not at the car in real life.

The new car black band might be a reference to the 1980s Testarossa, you can see inside the vents there is a black bar.

If they did a car with side strakes, people would complain it was lazy to copy what came before…

Bravo but you did opine on how others will react so not exactly a position of not caring in principle. Its not personal attack to suggest many will still dislike it.

I didn’t see it as a personal attack and even if it were, you’re entitled to behave however you see fit. I’ve been through enough in my life to not be offended by a random on the internet.

I’ll say it again: until you the proverbial “you” have seen the car in real life, I don’t consider your opinion valid, because it comes from a misinformed position. Someone might believe they’re correct, and even after seeing the car in person their view might not change, but until that happens, I don’t consider their opinion valid.

t think the idea is good and the design is strong
Also think - that if someone can't justify or afford any new Ferrari - they are offended no matter what it looks or drives like.

I have never once in my life time test driven a car - read reviews magazine R&T to make a decision or spoken to owners or sales mechanics etc.

Fast forward - people can hate a car by seeing a photo - not just any car but a 500k Ferrari - misery loves company and most of these posts show the persons true self - has zero to do with the newest design. Dislike a design feature a color etc - but to hate a 500k Ferrari and show a pallet strap - ok!

There Is a reason most people dislike new models - then later start to like them, they sound stupid hating a car to owners salespeople mechanics - so they find company here with no recourse.
No one in my lifetime has ever walked up and said they hate my car - 100s of car events not one. Put it in perspective internet comments are not reality. Every Mom Dad kid at car shows are thankful for bring out a car - here somehow people are offended by a Ferrari - done entertaining these people -

Dude, you really have a problem with humility, constantly relating everything to money, either you're a rock star, or you need to come back down to earth...:D If we have a different opinion, it's necessarily because we don't have as much money as you, you're creating a caricature... I'm saying this in a friendly way, but in real life it must scare a lot of people away...

Love all cars bikes motorcycles, because an engineer / designer and machinist painter mechanic and want to argue with people who don't appreciate others hard work.

The commitment it takes to buy and own new Ferrari's - so respect the ones that do and the one who produce them for the world to see.
It's not a me vs you or anyone else, it's about respect to what people bust their arse over to own a Ferrari.

Can you imagine the people who work to build these cars - reading your posts?
    Put things in perspective -

If you think a person who works their arse off doesn't care about every penny nickle and dime - you are mistaken.
No matter how much someone has - they do not take anything for granted - they respect and wish others success. That's what people who respect other people do - all day every day.

I don't need to waste my time to read people spew hate on a new Ferrari - I get it but it's not for me.

It's your choice, but personally, I believe that you have to be able to accept contradictions in life... That's what enriches a discussion, in my opinion...
When you think something is bad, you can and should say so. I'm not a fan of sectarian approaches...
This has nothing to do with those who make the cars, and whom we all respect here, myself included. When something isn't good, there's no harm in saying so; you shouldn't feel attacked by it because you think the opposite. However, it's quite possible that you have more respect than Ferrari has for us, including you...
