Does anyone have a DIY for the steering rack bushings or is it that easy of a job that it's not needed? I havent looked obviously but can the rack brackets be removed easily from under the car?

    thank you

I'm sure yelcab will jump in, but this is not a fun or easy job. It is in fact awful. There is likely no DIY because nobody does it unless you absolutely and positively have to remove the steering rack for a rebuild during a major... then you can slip on new bushings if you can find them.

Due to limited steering rack tunnel space, you have to drop the rack, which involves disconnecting from steering shaft, draining brake, AC, steering lines, and coolant, removing tie rod ends, removing the anti sway bar, which needs to be fully disassembled, pulling apart the frunk lower carpet, which you already had to do for the fluids... then you can remove the sway bar bushing brackets from the frunk and start dropping the rack carefully. Expect the usual something to break, a few long gashes on your forearms, and a reduced will to carry on.

It is also helpful if you can lose enough weight first to fit under the steering column to disconnect the hydraulic lines while on your back. The smaller you are, the better for this job.

thank you! I've dropped the rack before and it's one of the worst mechanical jobs I've ever encountered. I was hoping there was a way around not having to remove the rack but it sounds like thats not the case.
