Two very different experiences. I have a 992 Turbo S, like it and will keep it. But it's not giving me thrills at all. The 296 is so much fun to drive. But I wouldn't daily it with the race seats and also because its appearance is too loud to drive to work.

    That sentence is an oxymoron.

If you truly intend on keeping your 296 "for many years" then depreciation shouldn't really be a concern, much less "massive depreciation."

If by "many years" you mean at least 5 or more years, then even with "massive depreciation" you still got to enjoy the car for 5 years.

Most of the "massive depreciation" of a car like the 296 comes in the first couple of years, then the curve flattens out. So if you keep your car for "many years" it really becomes irrelevant if there is depreciation. I would almost say that the longer you keep the car the more likely depreciation becomes less of a concern.

Until you go to trade it in - ordered Porsche Turbo S - requested pts.
Goal GT2RS and next 918 - it won't be easy but nothing ever is when you are late to the party.

Uhh, I hope the 296 value continues to tank. As a 296 gtb owner, I can't wait to get my hands on a 296 gts.

More seriously, I really don't see a car at this caliber go for much less than 250k for a long long time. If it does, I will buy another one.

It's just personal preference. Both are great cars (well... I'm thinking the 911 will be), but as has been expressed above...buy, or keep in your scenario, what you'll love to drive/look at the most, and put resale aside. Enjoyment > future dollar considerations in this case, IMO.
For me, if I was in your position...it's simple, (unless it's part of a multiple car collection with Porsche & Ferraris) I'm taking a Ferrari over a Porsche everyday.

Wow, did the first owner use this as a track rental? High mileage.

Are you not driving this because you think it will depreciate more? If this is how little you drive I don’t see the point even getting a Turbo S either. You are paying interest to have it sit in your garage

Right? If the goal is just to own a super car and not drive it for fear of any depreciation I would get like a high mileage 458
