I do not use restamped as the chassis was never stamped anything other than 0446/MD, apparently the deal by Picard was made well in advance.

Post 2401. None of the photographs were taken at Castle Combe. Plus the lower is in fact John Bolster testing the HWM at Brands Hatch

0568M wasn't in service in 1955; I think it's from 1956.

 

I have this race as 2° Carrera Sagua - Habana (GP Sport of Cuba) on 10 October 1955 and the result as 2nd AO / 1st in class Sports

Regarding #110 at the Targa Florio, is it sure it was not Parravano’s Monza 0538 M ?

 

It was 0538M, wind screen is very different.

 

I know this is off topic but the discussion regarding 0538/M brings to mind an interesting event in the late fall of 1990. A man by the name of Bill Shaker had a sports car which he had driven to and from work in California for several years. He contacted Allie Ash then of Ferrari of Washington as to what the car was. Allie suggested that Shaker contacted me which he did. I then visited a shop in Leesburg where the car was being serviced. Clearly a custom body on a recognizable Ferrari chassis but Chevy powered. With permission I started my search for numbers. A water pump pulley obscured the normal chassis number stamping position on the front cross member so off came the belt and pulley, and with little sandpaper work the stamped number 0538/M appeared. See pencil rubbing below. I then removed the seats and the transaxle cover to check the transaxle serial number which turned out to be 48/S with was a 5 speed non-synchro transaxle used in the 1955 500 Mondials S2 and 750 Monzas. He had promised his son that he could take his date to the High School prom but that did not happen. While getting the car out of his garage to go to the 1991 Ferrari Club of America National Meet it rolled backward into the fender his Volvo so the body at the meet reflected the damage. He then sold the car to David Smith. David spend a full afternoon with tape measures and a camera under my car in Arlington because the Chevy installation had moved all semblance of the original motor mounts, and he knew my chassis was also a tipo 509. The rest of the Parravano car story is well known.

Not too well, Pat Bryan raced it til 1962, 10 years later it appeared with 1971 Michigan plates and then we find it with Bill Shaker in CA/USA. Who owned it in early 1970s?
