Lifelong Porsche guy considering GTS for 50th bday

Easily? No. I was shopping for a while. The bigger discounts are only on the very high spec’s cars. Very hard to get more than $80K off and most are more expensive. I offer $100K off for a few cars and was turned down. Only a handful of GTS were cheaper with stickers of $550- 600K.

 

Here is one I think is a relative deal (at a main dealer), note the AF pack means no lifter no bumpy road mode, but, I think the livery has aged pretty well.

He was asking about a GTS, not a GTB. The best discounts for both the GTB and GTS are on the AF cars. Funny- People only want hardcore cars if they are made in limited numbers and then they are worth over MSRP. The AF cars will ultimately be rarer then these special/ Speciale editions. In the distant future when the market realizes this- maybe they will appreciate.

 

The lack of a lifter, even if not an issue in practice (for some), was a major oversight for Ferrari.

 

Great minds think alike! I am also turning 60 next year and we ordered a GTS in Verde Minerale. Went a little overboard with black roof and a thin stripe, but saw a similar spec car and loved it.

No. My understanding is that with the lifter, you lose the specific multimatic suspension (same with the Speciale). Why do the more focused driver car without the focus?

 

I don't think a Ferrari would be right for you just based on your purchasing decisions.

 

I don’t think that’s fair. Some people take more time to get comfortable buying exotics.

 

It took me a while also.

 

I ignored the 296 because of the hybrid drivetrain and then I drove it. All I could say was wow! I recently took delivery of my GTS and absolutely love it! I've owned some of the cars that the OP posted and can say without a doubt the 296 is more fun and thrilling. I still have a Lambo in the garage.

The online configurator only has the standard range colours (including historical and classic) plus a subset of the special metallics - the dealer configurator has the full extrarange colour palette to choose from.

The nice thing is that any car can be "PTS"/extracampionario, there's no allocated build slots/games to play like at Porsche, the downside is that the paint option costs are insane. And, unlike PTS, you'll never get the paint option value back on resale.

Can you still order a new GTS? I thought order books were closing shortly or already closed.

I love my 296 and I have no regrets buying it, but if I were doing it again, especially now, I'd just get a used one and save the $100k.

 

I’ve owned quite a few mid engine models, currently have the GTB version, and absolutely think it’s one of the best Ferraris I’ve ever owned and driven. .
Did you get to take that test drive?

 

The dealer we are working with said orders closed in July for US cars.

 

How did it go? That’s my dealer too. I love my 296 gtb and have the gts on its way. I also sold my 812 gts and while I loved that car too I like the 296 more. I do have a 12 cylinder in production but it’s a coupe (practically, looks and timing) to go with the gts. I know it was raining yesterday so I hope it was a nice test drive. My first Ferrari was a California and the day I test drove it there was a massive nov storm so pretty reserved so I didn’t get the real feel…ended up buying a Maserati cabrio off the lot as I didn’t want to wait. I regretted that decision and sold the car a couple of months later and signed for the California. Haven’t looked back since

Great write-up! Having owned a 991.2 GT3, I'm not surprised you dug it and agree with your feedback.

Having driven both the GTB and GTS (and now owning a GTS) I can tell you that the GTS takes the immersion and emotion to the next level. Just being able to roll the rear window down has a huge impact, even with the top up, in terms of sound. When the roof comes down...ooof. What a thing! The sound of the exhaust, intakes, blow-off valves, and even the wind contribute to the experience so much IMO. Yet it's still possible to have a conversation at 90mph with the top down. Pro tip: rolling down the rear glass actually makes it *less* windy in the cabin!

Anyhow, if you're on the fence, make sure you drive a GTS too to see if you dig it before springing the extra $. If you're leaning GTS, then just do it! When you're spending this much money, might as well not get stuck with a big "what if" in the back of your mind....

 

Since August for mine. We're hoping it arrives this month.

I can't complain that much, I only put the order in like 11 months ago.

 

Few points having had mine for a year. 1. 1-3 are spot on. 4, you do actually get used to the haptics but yes, the new wheel probably better. The haptics never feel second nature but it gets better to the point of not mattering after 1000 miles. 5, lean the seat back, it helps! 6, Bumpy road is amazing, 7. best chassis I've ever experienced.

I think GTS is the move (I have a GTB). While the GTB is probably a tiny bit sharper, the 296 is beautiful to drive. In my 765LT, it's such an immersive and intense experience that I feel obligated to push and feel the RUSH. In the 296, the experiential range is far more broad in capability and pleasure. I love driving it slowly, and love driving it fast. But I don't feel let down by not flooring it at every chance. I think because of that, the GTS makes more sense. The slight decrease in overall performance is worth it for the sky.
