Guys, my MY2000 360 coupe just crapped its fuel gauge out. The digital fuel gauge reads completely empty despite having fuel in the car. In fact I filled it up and restarted the car hoping it was a glitch that would go away but not so.

Anyone else experience this problem? Is it an easy fix?

    Thanks.

I believe bad sending units on the early 360's were common... Usually incorrect read errors on fill level..

Do a search you should find much info on bad fuel sending units

    Thanks guys for the link.

My gas did read 3/4 full before as per the issue with the thread link. However it now completely reads nothing. I wonder if the same part or fix will amend the issue?

there is probably a good chance. I would check to see if a fuse has blown first. If not, then it's quite possible the sending unit in the tank (that little arm you see in the pics) has gone out or shorted out or something. Might not be a bad idea to kill the power and turn it back on just to make sure also.

If you do need to replace the sending unit/arm ass'y, search The Forum for Ray John's great write up DIY. This helped me alot when I did the replacement to get a 'full tank' reading. Not a difficult job. Take your time and be CAREFUL because you are working around gas and vapors. The dealer wanted lots of $$$$$ to do this. The part was about $110 USD.

The guage on my '99 was reading incorrectly and I was advised that sometimes the sending unit gets "gunked up" and after a couple of tanks of gas with some fuel treatment it started working fine (has for 2 years). Might be worth a try for a really cheap fix.

There are no fuses as the instrument binnacle provides power. All you can do is check the ground wire (black/violet) and look for some kind of power coming from the dash on the violet/yellow wire with the key turned on. Also check the resistance across the new sender itself to see if it's ok.

An open circuit will give you an empty indication and a light.

The wiring goes through these plugs behind the left hand seat (if access to the pump is difficult)

    Specifically, the white plugs.

Part of the wiring shown here:

    See 27L (sender/pump) and 21T (ground)

The ground is on the rear of the left hand engine cam cover.
