I dont own taycans or macans. The 70k mile cayenne has been bullet proof. Those cars you keep mentioning are from 2 decades ago. Ferrari’s $600,000 V12 GTS still has the same oil leaks your 12 year old FF does.
I don't doubt some V12's have had oil leaks, but not all of them. I have 64K miles on my V12 2008 612 and 28K on my V12 2015 FF. Neither engine has leaked any oil. In fact they don't even burn enough oil between changes to need to add any. There was one exception. When I drove my 612 to Arizona and New Mexico from Massachusetts, I put on 6604 miles and did have to add 1.5 quarts during the trip. The only exposure I've had with Porsche is my wife's 2019 Panamera 4. While I don't care for some of the controls, I must say the build quality is excellent and the car has given 58K miles of trouble free driving.
You seem to be missing the point. The cars from 2 decades ago went bad when they were young = poor design. The cars which are new today also go bad (my less than 2 year old Panamera has had multiple issues) = poor design. Just because you don’t happen to own those models (Panamera, Taycan or Macan) doesn’t mean that Porsche isn’t still making poor designs. The oil leaks on the 812 engine cover occur in places which don’t exist on my FF’s engine so I have no idea what you’re talking about. Given your extensive post history, it would seem that you really do have a passion for Ferrari but can’t quite bring yourself to own one because your head rules your heart. That’s fine, we all know that Ferrari makes questionable design choices, but please don’t come on here complaining about Ferrari issues while at the same time demonstrating a blindness to Porsche’s failings. Those of us who own both brands know otherwise and it just makes you look foolish.
Thought you might enjoy an update on my FF DCT rebuild. Given the prolonged experience I had with the PTU rebuild, and the fact that my DCT failed one week after getting the car back from that fix, you just knew the fun wouldn’t end. So I shipped my car to Autohaus of Boston to have the DCT rebuild done. They use the solid rebuild kits from Hollywood mechanic. In order to time everything, I purchased a repair kit from Hollywood mechanic to be shipped to them in Boston to arrive this Monday. However, it never arrived. Hollywood checked into it with the shipping number, and UPS states they cannot locate it and are opening up an investigation to try and find it. WTF. Hollywood has this shipment insured of course. i’m starting to think I’m not going to drive this car until Christmas.
I hear you. My car had the DCT rebuilt in November, got a rock chip in February and we were out of the country for a while. Once we were back in July I sent the car to the dealer to replace the windshield, 4 weeks later I picked up the car with a new windshield and was told a few days later about an oil leak. Turns out the lifter pump failed so it’ll be a few more weeks before I get the car back. Just in time for the rain.
